The annoying thing for me is we can't seem to gather momentum. I'll take a shit day like this if it's few and far between but we're seeing a pattern and it's frustrating as fuck.

Being glass-half-full (or, at least, trying to diagnose it), we're clearly trying to change the way we build attacks this season - that being one of the identifiers of the whole 'team in transition' thing. There's far more short, quick passing in central areas than previous seasons. It's not our only tactic, but the added emphasis on that sort of gameplan points to the shake-up.

 

Hopefully the team will settle in time because, if it doesn't, a 9th-13th place finish probably beckons.

We are a one trick pony who wins by dominating games with high energy and have very little ability to control games or break down a low block.

That doesn't work when we are playing twice a week. 

It is what it is, lets try again next year when we don't have Europe.

It’s the away showings that I find concerning. Honestly feels like we’ve barely played well away from home in the league since 2022-23. Off the top of my head;

 

8-0 v Sheffield Utd 23/24

3-1 v Villa 23/24

4-1 v Burnley 23/24

4-0 v Ipswich 24/25

2-0 v Man United 24/25

3-1 v Southampton 24/25

0-0 v Villa 25/26

 

Surely there’s more but that’s from what I remember. 6 games out of 43 and not exactly the best opposition either.

Playmakers in the EPL are practically a myth these days. Can you even name one playmaker in the EPL right now who's having a good season or is even remotely decent?

I don’t think it’s necessarily a playmaker or 10 as such, but someone with creativity and who can also be a consistent goal threat. Ideally one of our midfielders and both our wingers would fit that but our problem is none of them have those attributes.

Burn is Howe’s first name on the team sheet.

 

Unless he put him back at CB instead of Botman, Burn will continue at LB even when Tino and Hall are back and fully fit.

It’s more the hyperbole I’m seeing. Before today we’d won 5 of the last 6 and moved into a winnable quarter final of a cup. Now there’s genuine venom because we played badly and lost a game.

Neither of those are coming in for him. This is the biggest club he will ever manage. I was worried about Man U would come sniffing at one point but I think we are starting to see Eddie hitting his ceiling now tbh. Hate to say it but I think Simon Jordan is probably right about him. He is struggling to deliver when the expectations are sky high, which they always will be at an elite club, or a club that wants to be elite. His teams are all about workrate, motivation and running and less about creativity and technical ability, and when the players dont produce that we see days like today.

Just because there is more discussion after a defeat, doesn't mean people want Howe out. It's obvious there will be more to say in this scenario. 

Totally agree about today. It was one of the worst performances I’ve seen in the Howe era. Completely inept on all levels.

 

I was responding to another comment about why it does seem to be much more active in here after a loss. But if any defeat deserves knee jerk reactions, this one is up there. 
 

But the last paragraph isn’t necessarily true. wyn Davies certainly wants Howe out, and Stifler basically said that Howe plateaued with us. But I’m fine with Stifler’s comment because he should be angry after that performance from manager and players. And I’m sure Howe is.

I don’t email the council when my bins have been emptied. It’s not that deep. Howe has rock solid support but we’re allowed to question poor performances. Howe normally ‘coaches’ a win but the players, occasionally, let us down but today we were abject.

We were clearly tired and West Ham have had a big break, it's games like this we need to show some control on the ball but that's never happening with the line-up we put out.
