I mean the league season clearly isn't a write-off; there's 28 games still to play. But it's looking and feeling weirdly similar to this time last year, and we don't have the fixture relief or the world class striker to drag us into a season-defining winning run. So it's looking a bit hairy, admittedly.

We can obviously still be competitive in the top half but it goes without saying that today has to be the nadir.

We still had a very forgiving fixtures list when we went on a run last season, not so much this season, it looks very tough.

£120m on wingers that can only kick and run. The most productive winger we have is one he inherited.

It's the lack of technical ability on the ball out wide that kills everything imo.

Ramsey and Elanga haven’t raised the bar for 100 million. Unfortunately, this is what it comes down to for me, we needed to improve the quality in first 11 and after 10 games it’s not looking like he has.

Premier league proven. Sooner we fuck this approach off the better.

Funny how there’s barely a post in here after a win but it’s a fucking feeding frenzy after we lose. It’s a fascinating insight to say the least.

I love him but today wasn’t his best day; seemed all at sea. Thaiw CB/RB/LB, Tonali RB, Barnes RW/LW all over the show. Can’t remember the match but there was a similar incoherent approach last season and we lost.

Disagree, Howe is worshipped as he's a legend and the best manager NUFC has had in the Premier League era but criticism (when warranted) should be discussed.

They cannot all be from losses.

While the general point you're making is fair, there are obviously going to be more bones to chew through after an abject performance like that compared to a routine win, especially when he clearly had an off-day himself with his changes.

You can't be serious mate we are playing terrible and don't create fuck all, after the players we brought in we still have the same problems no 10 no technical wingers except for maybes Barnes. An isolated striker.

Was never comfortable with him having total control this summer, don’t think any manager should.

It’s a tough one because it’s pointless buying players that the manager doesn’t want, and Howe won a cup last season and got us into the CL again, so you have to back him.

However, the standard of player we have brought in from abroad vs those from the UK is night and day imo.

Could have got Kubo in instead of Elanga. I said that we overpaid for him but everyone raved about him. All he does is run to edge of the box then stop and try and play 1 2’s. We could have kept Miggy, saved ourselves £50m, and still been able to get a goal or 2 each season out of him.

Barnes who is good for 20 minutes as an impact sub, and Gordon who’s sacked it off because it takes him too much mental strength to motivate himself or to stop himself from being wound up that he ends up getting sent off for something stupid.

I think that the Information Age has conditioned people for instant gratification and pathological impatience.

…something sports fans of course  have suffered from way before, but I think it’s been magnified over the last 25 years.

Build up play is so slow and predictable, its been a regular issue for us under his charge. The walking around by the cb's on the half way line needs binning and we need to move the ball quicker through the lines.

I love Eddie and he's plateaued before with us and kicked on, I back him to do so again.

I said the same thing. The whole thing about him having total control over transfers is stupid and is just putting us in an impossible position for when he sacks us off for when the likes of Liverpool or Man Utd come along for him.

I think the summer's problem of a lack of a striker and Wissa being injured have made him think very defensively, as if he doesn't have the confidence in us scoring goals.  Woltemade may have scored a few but he's not a no 9 but a no 10.  That negatively seems to be felt by the team.  Unfortunately when Wissa is back it may take him time to get upto speed.  We all know that Osula is not good enough and, despite why Eddie says (and today did) Eddie knows that too so he defends.

We have needed a playmaker for three seasons now to unlock a low block, and he still hasn't signed one. That today was embarrassing. He was bringing players on just for the sake of it in the second half, and then putting other players out of position just to fit them in. The performances are just not acceptable and he needs to sort it out quickly. Elanga man £55 million, I said at the time it was well over double to what he was worth

I don't get why we're always so obsessed with a playmaker. We won all 12 games against the bottom 6 teams, scoring 35 goals. Our real issue is that we stop pushing for more after we score. Murphy gets us ahead, then we just sit back and let them come at us. We've been doing this for two seasons now.

We're too passive and back off, and that's because we're overworking our midfield.

Ramsey, Willock, and Miley should be playing regularly to keep our energy levels up.

Playmakers in the EPL are practically a myth these days. Can you even name one playmaker in the EPL right now who's having a good season or is even remotely decent?

Or maybe the performance was just awful, even worse than every other sub-par away performance this season, and it's cause for concern and worthy of debate?

Just because there is more discussion after a defeat, doesn't mean people want Howe out. It's obvious there will be more to say in this scenario.

It doesn't excuse today's performance at all but having our three first, second and third choice full-backs all missing is definitely going to have a severe effect on both our attacking and defensive play. The whole dependable Krafthy thing definitely seems to be a distant memory at this point, he's been rubbish every time I've seen him this year.

Burn is a strange one. Sometimes he surprises you; sometimes he doesn't.
