I can see Howe at Chelsea next season and doing well with a bigger better squad and cash to burn.

Nah, Chelsea manager gets very little input into transfers.

latest one from Geordie journo's indicating Eddie has the backing behind the scenes and will be here next season. Bit shocked at most of the comments tbh,  high percentage are in disagreement with quotes like 'if that's true it's a disgrace' etc

I honestly don't think anything is decided, and we don't know, EH might not have the appetite for it, even if the club want to keep him on.

They (GJ's) were correct in that the end of season 'review' was always planned, with EH to be there, so nothing sinister in that. Doubt the club were ever going to say anything officially about his position before then anyway.

But also saw something suggested on Twitter yesterday that sacking/paying off EH and his backroom staff now, would be a major hit to this years PSR figures, to be submitted by end of June. Apparently under SCR, it would only be the head coach's sacking/pay-off that would impact the numbers, not the rest of the backroom staff, so maybe that is a consideration in the thinking going forward?

Either way, whether that's true or not, I think if/when it happens, it will be described as 'mutual'.

 With the remaining fixtures.

Crystal Palace (a)

Bournemouth (h)

Arsenal (a)

Brighton (h)

Nottingham forest (a)

Westham United (h)

Fulham (a)

How many can you see us getting?

I've got 4 points at most with a win against forest and a draw at palace.

Gonna have to revise my points prediction. 😂

I think we will probably get 4 or 5 points:

Draw away at Forest, Win against West Ham at home and then a draw at Fulham.

I think Arsenal will probably hammer us this weekend, and then Brighton will win a scrappy game at SJP.

If Howe does end up staying it does make me feel quite nervous, probably more nervous than watching us when we are winning a game [emoji38]

Makes me nervous on a few fronts really.

I think the biggest one for me is are we able to swallow our pride and admit that the majority of last season's transfers simply haven't worked out. Are we able to recognise that and shift in direction or are we stubborn and go along with the rhetoric that Wissa, Woltemade, Elanga will 'come good' with a full pre-season. I know my view on that situation and it'll be interesting to see how the club acts in relation to those players. Certainly if they stay and nothing changes in relation to each individual, then there will be more questions asked next season and probably rightfully so too.

Hopefully, we abandon the notion of 'prem proven' & athletic footballers and across go with people that bring skill and creativity to our team.

I’m still give howe a chance to rebuild in the summer. But I’m an old softy.  But I have seen very worrying repeated mistakes and stubborn decisions that have got me questioning him. The no plan b comments had me baffled. I’m more concerned the team seem to have switched off him and can he come back from that. He’s been let down by several players. Badly.

the remaining games I need to see something different from him. If we go to arsenal and try to go toe to toe, then concede one, fall apart and lose by a massive margin, followed by usual subs. I don’t know how I will feel.

i want to see tactics designed not to get battered. If it means parking the bus from minute 1 and getting a 0-0 that’s a massive win for me. We haven’t got the form, confidence or guts to go and give them a game. Let’s just avoid losing.

given arsenal need GD fuck knows what might happen.

One of the considerations will surely have to be, if Howe stays, then we have two useless strikers on our books.

It's not inconceivable that a different manager with a different method of playing could get a tune out of either Woltemade or Wissa.

It’s possible, but I think it’s a bit of a leap to think Howe will never use them ever. He’s been trying to force results this season and he’s never really given up on a player before.

I don't think it's that much of a leap since they've been here all season and we are seeing Anthony Gordon and Osula starting ahead of both.

There’s just too many red flags with Howe now. To make his preferred formation and tactics work he’ll need a new striker and he’ll need to sort out the RW and probably the LW too if Gordon goes.

His favoured ‘rotating number 8s’ system and indifference to a specialised CDM hasn’t worked all season.

Despite having our nominal ‘best back four’ available at times they look leakier than a sieve and no combination of CBs have given us a sense of security.

Both his keepers are accidents waiting to happen. With an ageing squad, purples seemingly agitating for moves, a lack of youth players on the fringes it just seems like a Herculean task to get us challenging for the top 6 again.

Thats not even mentioning our tactical and technical failures, lack of in game management and waning motivation, players rotting on the bench for whatever reason.

Its been one hell of a journey but that steel and grit we had a couple of seasons ago has vanished.

I don’t have confidence in Howe to oversee the coming rebuild, I really don’t.

On the transfer thing, this summer was a bit of a mess. You can blame who you like for that, up to you, and it's had several knock ons.

But what got us there was multiple windows before that where we couldn't spend, with the squad aging all that time and being unable to afford to refresh the team properly.

What got us THERE was "overspending" to the point that we needed a fire sale, having overperformed to the unbelievable point of being in the CL, with a few astute signings.

But what got us to the point of that "overspending" in the first place was over a decade of not enough investment in the team to leave us with the most threadbare squads I can remember, and actually needing some players to avoid what had seemed like certain relegation under Bruce.

That's right, I'm still blaming Ashley half a decade on.

As for Howe, I do think we need to see a strong reaction in these last few games. Not talking about winning every game, but signs that the team haven't checked out.

Without that, I think there's a strong chance he decides to walk himself in any case.

Maybe it's been decided, journo's certainly won't know at this point. My post was more about the groundswell of opinion out there in our fanbase,it seems this place is out on it's own in support of Eddie staying, their poll for example ( GJ's),were reporting about 70% Eddie out. Nearly everywhere I look it seems support for him is evaporating

Howe has Bruno back so our performances will be a lot better for the rest of the season, our reliance on one player is a worry though because it means the rest aren't performing

Of course you should; it shouldn't be controversial. We hit a malaise at one of the worst possible times so it's still critical context to everything that's followed. Doesn't absolve every decision obviously, but you weren't saying that.

We had similarly bad performances whenever Isak was out last season. Take a striker like that out of the equation and suddenly Murphy looks like dogshit as well.

Big fan of "silverware" / "seventy year".  Ashington pit lad poet I reckon.  100% rhyme in that accent and the missing S on the end of years is also textbook Northumberland pitmatic.

The one saving grace really.

lets just accept stasis and live off the past - even if it was a year ago.

we need to be demanding improvement season on season.

living off sentiment never got the big teams to where they are (yes, yes, i know money also helped).

i go home and away, i love Eddie.

its gone stale.

but watching us its clear it needs either Eddie and 7 or 8 new first teamers (not squad fillers) - or a new coach.
