I suppose the reason you don’t get rid of a manager is because they will come good and achieve your ambitions. Howe is not going to do that, is he? He will never win us anything.  Being honest with ourselves, he isn’t.  Nor will any other fucker, of course, but a roll of the dice can at least freshen things up, spark…something. We are like the definition of a football ceiling at this point but personally I would enjoy a new manger to give us that same boost Howe did. So whatever.

Nonsense!

We don't have a ceiling.

Klopp said so remember? 😅

But it would be fun. And it isn't like we are allowed to compete, so why not fuck about with Mourinho for half a season or so?

That’s probably the most football managery kind of post I’ve read on here, top work

Mitchell should be having discussions with Iraola about coming here from Bournemouth.

If he can get them playing the sort of football they do with a Ryan Christie and Lewis Cook partnership in midfield then surely he can better that with Bruno and Tonali.

This was probably the same reasoning why we got Howe tbf. We need to aim higher than this if we’re rolling the dice.

I back him 100 per cent but if he doesn’t get into Europe this season (or win a cup lol) he’ll be gone.

It wouldn’t be fun at all.  Did you ever watch a Mourinho side?  ‘Fun’ isn’t how I’d describe it.

Hiring Mourinho isn’t about the football. It’s about the silly bollocks.

Let’s have 18 months watching the press conferences and forget the matches.

Gutted to see people turning on him, but the case against is getting stronger all the time

Just don’t want to see him in someone else’s dugout.

:okay:

Sounding like a jealous ex!

"We don't want him. But no one else can have him either..." 😅

Felt the same about Benitez. That turned out okay in the end.

The performances had taken a massive dive, and he was managing a club which had a turnover level with Liverpool.  It was underperformance and looking like a decline.  Souness being utterly incompetent was the issue with his replacement.

That was a crushing fucking bit of news. I heard so many people claiming souness was a great appointment that I thought I’d moved to fucking Oz or something.

Was he not backed in the window or was he part of that problem? Still a big question.

He was backed, he wanted Guéhi.

We put all our eggs on 1 basket to get him, ultimately Palace fucked is over.

I want Iraola because Bournemouth play exciting football and are a great team to watch, along with him improving all of the players there.

Howe’s position was completely different, having left Bournemouth after they were relegated.

Today was a bit weird but there's been a pattern all season. Previously we used to press the shit out of the oppositon, now they seem to be doing it back, and more effectively. It's almost as if they have cottoned on and adapted to our game plan.

I still cant believe its true. Guehi or nothing was the most absurd thing we could ever do. And he looks so fucking bad now.

If so, then it's a case of you reap what you sow

Yeah, it was disastrous.  There was a bloke I knew who kept banging on about how he’d ’sort out dressing room discipline’.  We played Blackburn straight after his appointment and thumped them - Shepherd should’ve torn up his contract there and then; that should’ve been proof of what he’d hired.

Do we have to appoint someone similar to Steve Bruce for a couple of years if Howe goes

3 points from 21 vs these teams:

  • Brentford
  • Brighton
  • Fulham
  • Bournemouth
  • West Ham
  • Everton
  • Palace

This is why I'm struggling with Eddie at the moment, unfortunately. If we were losing consistently to the best teams in the league, it would be a case of "it is what it is", but it's hard to buy the arguments about the players just not being good enough when our squad is better and more expensive than every team in that list - only Brighton being debatable, from an ability perspective, maybe.

It's even more difficult to buy that argument when against the big six we suddenly start to play like our 22/23 team again. This suggests to me that we just aren't motivated for the fixtures you've listed. That sits with the players, for sure, but it also has to sit with the manager.

I don't want to say he's "lost" the players, but the inability to light them up for anything other than shop-window fixtures is concerning.

For the record, nothing's changed for me after that really. Still nowhere near enough to blame that I can pin on him uniquely, for me that's pivotal.

He seems to have lost the dressing room and players he’s picked. I thought one of Eddie’s strengths was motivation? That alone feels pivotal, no?

Don't want him sacked at all like a few others.

That will change if he continues to prove he cannot adapt anything/ be proactive or motivate the team.

Motivating the team for the big games is easy, but Howe cannot seem to do it anymore for the 'smaller' sides.

Howe really sold himself well in that podcast with Jake Humphrey years ago and how he can learn and adapt and has done while he was jobless, but now he is disproving that a bit. Really hope he changes that round as well as starts being proactive in his management of the team and tactics.
