Clowns like you incessantly complained about the football for two periods during the 22/23 season. "Howe has been found out" and all that shit.  First, when we could only draw at the beginning. Second, from the January window to after the Cup Final loss. A few were the exact same people calling for Howe's head 10 games into his Newcastle career.

So what if he does, there’s only one stat that counts and you don’t get any “look good points”. I have no time for people hounding Howe out, sure we all let frustration out sometimes after a bad performance but look at our squad ffs. The players you listed in your statement Almiron, Willock, Joelington have no right getting any team into the top spots and I cannot think that other managers will to be honest yet he does. Don’t get me wrong - playing a beautiful attacking style and blowing Liverpool off the park wouldn’t meet with any complaints from me.  But an 90th minute calamitous OG by their keeper to win it after we’ve spent the previous 89 having 20% possession and zero shots on goals would meet with no complaints from me either

Agreed but it’s managing expectations and I have issues with people wanting him sacked because he hasn’t managed to repeat the first time anyone’s got us to champions league in decades. We are a work in progress and our squad is…. Well we all know what it is, we have legitimate reasons we’re not buying players and our current squad is ageing. These are facts out of Eddies control yet he gets on with it and does amazing.

I’d be comfortable saying no other manager could have got the same tune out of our squad the same way as Howe has.  We’ve just about got a first team together. Scratch the surface and there’s some squad players that would struggle to get in any other top 7 pl squad.

It’s all context, of course - other managers haven’t exactly had the budget either.  But my view remains that (for me) Howe performed a borderline miracle in 21/22, did a superb job in 22/23, did a good job in 23/24, and has done a very good job this season (with caveats around some of the performances early on and recently).  We’re 6th and in a cup final - we have to be happy with that is my view (I always get really fucked off when we lose in the FA Cup, so I was annoyed the other week) - the league is so tight that this time next month we could easily be 3rd, or we could be in 10th.  I can’t understand any calls for his head tbh - the bloke clearly has a lot of ‘credit in the bank’.  When things were looking grim earlier in the season, I was posting in this thread that if it carried on until the end of the season that might be as far as he goes.  Barring a major drop in form, we should be ok - and if we win on Sunday, I frankly don’t give two hoots what happens until May.  The man will be able to coast on it for some time for me

Agree on the contest so I’m going to use it to the extreme, agreed he had a lot of money but imo he was starting a long way back due to lack of care from last regime, a lot of that money was just to play catch up - even that first season, coming in and finishing just outside top ten was incredible.

100% mate - you still have to spend it wisely, and Howe mostly did; he has a better transfer success rate than any previous NUFC manager IMO.  Just trying to be fair to previous managers - and I’m thinking of the likes of Rafa rather than Bruce  

 

(edit: though oddly enough it could be argued that Bruce’s transfers weren’t all that terrible in the long run - and Rafa made some right bollocks-ups! )

I think the coaching job Howe & team did in 22/23 is severely underrated. Obviously, we'd spent a bit of money, but looking at the team itself that played the majority of the season (remember, Isak missed about 4 months etc.), there's no way you're thinking that's a top 4 team that would end the season with the joint best defensive record & a goal difference of +35. For us nerds, loads of the underlying data was seriously, seriously impressive as well.
