TheInfiniteOdyssey
The ironic thing about Ashley's penny-pinching approach to recruitment is that it actually costs the club significantly more over the long-term by refusing to meet the valuations of quality players like Aubmeyang, Lacazette, Tagliafico etc. Then we end up paying over the odds for players like Muto, Joelinton etc. Yes, certainly. Just as annoying is the lack of effort in identifying the talent that can be had for reasonable fees. It's not an impossible approach, but it's clear we don't really do it properly. We should have done everything we could to have got Brentford's Director of Recruitment Phil Giles on board, he's a massive Newcastle fan and his work at Brentford has been incredible thus far
Collage
For a "Savant" and amazing businessman, he's absolutely shite at making money. Think it’s more that he knows fuck all about football and is scared of hiring anyone who’s not a complete yes man.

Consortium of one
And look at the talent we let go or give away: Abeid, Mbabu, etc. Not world beaters any of them but very solid squad players at least.

It's just horrendous man. Christ. We've got nobody at the club that knows anybody in football. Even Bruce. I bet beyond shaking hands with the opposition manager he doesn't even give a nod of acknowledgement to the other staff. He only shakes the managers hand cos it's on the telly. Absolute Elsewhere
And look at the talent we let go or give away: Abeid, Mbabu, etc. Not world beaters any of them but very solid squad players at least. Most of the young players we have let go haven’t been good enough or gone on to be a premier league level player and they wouldn’t get a game for us now other than probably Mbabu. TheInfiniteOdyssey
Find it strange that people are arguing against Abeid being a solid squad player In the time he was let go , we regularly had Colback in midfield Not to mention even just last season, we had garbage like Bentaleb, Schar (as a midfielder) in there, couple that with the distinctly underwhelming performances of Longstaff, and there's seriously not a case of Abeid being a good option? Even with the takeover we'd have had to buy interim players to get us moving in the right direction before we would be able to attract the best young prospects ahead of the big clubs. It's a cycle; if he wasn't penny-pinching to the extent he does, the club would be much more attractive to those players. And let's not forget that the club was normally linked to such players at stages of their career where they were much more attainable. It seems with a lot of these players if Ashley hadn't fucked around on prices for so long he could've had them before a more enticing offer came along. Well I agree with you that him being a penny pinching tight bastard has led to us becoming an unattractive club, don't think there's much dispute about that. Unfortunately for us we've ended up with one of the few owners who doesn't like football or football people in general. For him it's just about the money, there's no pride attached to the club or the city.
xLiaaamx
Abeid's better than any of our midfielders. He was better than Colback and Anita at the time, Carver just needed a scapegoat.

Bentaleb with nearly 100 appearances for Schalke and 35 int'l appearances didn't. We've seen both play in a Newcastle shirt though, with Abeid arguably being far superior? xLiaaamx
I don't get what's so controversial. He looked much more complete than either Longstaff. Hendrick will likely be a load of nothing, and Hayden is all about off the ball effort. This is all from watching him play for us.

Bimpy474
Medhi was a kid and hardly got a look in here, he's gone away and played in a decent league, played lots of international footy and grown up as a footballer. Whether he would help or not is debatable, but he would be back as a different player to the one that left, and with no Pardew and Carver to treat him like shite.
