Lewis is horseshit

Everyone thinks he can in and do a job , he was woeful under Bruce and did she a little improvement under Howe before getting injured but he is not the answer

Too negative , loves to go backwards with the ball , which is bizarre as he has pace ?

Watch him closely , he is pony

Aye, but he’s still our best LB, that’s the state we are in…

Also Joelinton probably could play in a midfoeld 2 like. He's looked best as a physically imposing ball winning midfielder so it's not like he needs protecting. The problem with him in a midfield 2, especially combined with our wingers, is that it still leaves us without any real goals or creativity, even more so if the other midfielder we bring in is a CDM (which they should be imo).

Tripple post wanker like but Joelinton might be effective as our deepest midfielder I just don't think we should risk our season on it. It's something we could possibly look into though in the future.

Along with his obvious defensive attributes he has decent ability on the ball to get out of tight areas in the middle of the pitch and can pick out a pass. He only really turns to shite when he gets 25 yards from goal. He might be alergic to steel.

I think Joelinton is best as a wide central midfielder in a 3 who operates in the half spaces; not as a defensive mid. You want to make use of his pressing higher up the pitch so he can win the ball in more dangerous areas, I think. I just wish he'd get in the box and try to score more.

We need someone to play the deeper role. Shelvey does not offer any protection at all. He has definitely been running around more recently but he has to because he's never in position. I suppose Kamara would be ideal for this from what I've heard.

Joelinton in a midfield 2 will never be used.

I think people grossly underestimate how much of a specialist position it is. There’s a reason centre backs who are nominally pegged as being able to play defensive mid are usually absolutely shit when they do have to step in. Joe’s been a revelation in midfield but he’d be shit in a 2.

Big Joe has played CM about 4-5 times hasn’t he and it’s always been in a 3? Seemed the tactic against Man U, in the first half at least. Was isolate the full back, win second balls and quickly release it to ASM on the left. He did play wider, you’re right.

He looked poor against Cambridge. In a game where they had more men around the ball, we had more possession and we had to try and force something.

Not sure I’d like to see him in a midfield 2. Just can’t see it happening. The sample size seems a bit small, anyway. He might revert to being utter shite soon enough, for all we know.

So what do people believe the fewest number of players we could bring in this window to 'guarentee' we stay up?

A proper LWB and a CDM gives us the flexibility to go 3 at the back and not be reliant on Fraser and Murphy, now we've got Wood we can play ASM up top with him and Wilson, or behind them. Obviously an extra CB would be grand as well but I don't think it's as necessary as the other 2 positions.

With 4 at the back we look very clunky no matter which way we line up ahead of them without atleast 2 new midfielders, 3 if we're only playing 1 up top?

I think we need a minimum of 4 signings, 2 of which we've already got, ideally about 6-7 tbh. An understudy striker, LB, 2 CB's and a CM.

As for 3 at the back, our current squad is more suited to that IMO, yet Howe still insists on a back 4. So I don't see why he would buy players specifically for a formation he doesn't use.

If the Gosens links are accurate then it suggests Howe wants to move to a back 5

Honestly I seriously doubt it. He could have done it with the players we've got already.

Gosens would be great but I'd be amazed if we got him like.

You're probably right too Tron. We're probably set out to play 5 at the back more than 4 now, like you say, but he does seem to prefer a flat  back 4.

Which is fair enough tbh, the best sides do tend to play a back 4 in the Premier, but they have the players to do it.

Looks like Liverpool are willing to sell Joe Gomez

Has he played much after his injury?  I wonder if he is struggling a bit, as I can hardly remember seeing him play this season.

Looked rapid and quality for quite a while next to VVD.  But did seem like without him he, he was a bit more accident prone and understandably didn't look quite as good.
