Kieran Trippier: targeting return for Brighton (h) (Hope)

Thought he had a fantastic game tonight, his trapping of a ball and first touch is exceptional. I know it’s been said a lot but it can’t be praised enough, it is a huge reason for why he manages to start so many attacks for us

mildly interesting stat whilst browsing some fbref:

Trippier (111) has attempted the most crosses in the premier league this season by quite a distance:

But NUFC (205) have attempted the 2nd fewest crosses in the league:

Thought Lascelles might be on there, he's very dominant in the air

he's winning a lot and he's losing a lot.

think a lot of teams deliberately try to test him.

Trippier accounting for half our crosses is one of those "surprising but also not that surprising" stats imo   given how our wingers enjoy cutting inside so much and Burn at LB for most of the season was rarely in danger of putting in a cross. Said it in his thread but Livramento, even out of position, really helps give us balance down the flanks.

Also will be marking the oppositions biggest aerial threat at set pieces, whereas Trippier will likely be on someone shorter.

This also doesn't account for letting an attacker head a ball while subtly putting him off balance....or many other factors really...

Trippier's first touch feels fake; its always in stride.

Like a cheat code. Guaranteed quality first touch. Don't think I've seen anyone take a first touch better since Ben Arfa (Stoke 3-0 at home always springs to mind).

Mahrez has the best first touch I can recall (quite possibly some recency bias there), like silk.

But agree, Trippier’s is phenomenal as well, often allows him to get 2 or 3 extra yards away from someone closing him down, which then allows him half a second extra to pick out a perfect pass.
