Sven Botman: "ahead of schedule" (Tindall)

It’s good to have the option, but with how good Burn has been this season I’d give Botman a full season this time before hoying him back in, unless in case of an emergency.

Would give him 20 minutes here and there, just to give him the mental boost. He's fighting hard to get fit to play, not to sit on the bench. He'll want to get some minutes for his own sake. Not the back to back 90's.

This late in the season, unless one of the CBs gets injured. I would just write this season off for him let him fully recover and come back fresh in pre season.

100%

No need at all to risk him

Wonder if he makes the bench for the Ipswich game.

Probably just a good news soundbite to deflect from Howe being ill I’d imagine.

Would be good to have him for Arsenal away and go 5 at back again. Villa and do the same would also be amazing.

I hope he’s been watching how aggressively Burn plays, and how proactive he is with his defending high up the pitch. It’s fundamental to how we want to play and Botman needs to add it to his game.

Have you seen him play mate? Botman does that all the time

This is a whoosh right? Botman practically set the blueprint to Burn how it should be done and does it infinitely better, or at least did before all the injuries.

I think this is a welcome boost if he is truly fit and ready to play. Burn to me has looked pretty worn out last few games and Schar pulled up it looked like towards the end of the man u game, so if we can give them a few minutes rest here and there in this run-in, I think that will be helpful .

Sorry but we can’t consider his feelings now. Stays on the bench during the run-in unless we already got the game in the bag for me.

Why would you demotivate one of your best players?

If he’s genuinely fit, there’s not a good reason to not get him involved in playing in some capacity. It’s good for him physically.

This isn’t a video game.  If he’s been busting a gut through rehab to get fit. Let him play.  He shouldn’t be overloaded obviously and it should be taken carefully.

Think it's also why I'm still keen on Guehi for RCB. It's high risk so having someone like Guehi who's got the recovery pace on the occasions he doesn't get there first is so important

I’m also hoping we can sign Guehi in the summer, would massively improve the squad.

he’s nowhere near as proactive as Burn has been in the last 6 months or so. It’s one of the main reasons why the gap between defence and midfield isn’t being as easily exploited now.

Burn is winning almost twice as many aerial challenges as Botman (last season) per 90, and competing in around 50% more ground duels too. There’s been a notable difference.

I’m keen on a fast RCB. Just not sure Guehi fits the bill. Would hope for quicker personally and more dominance in the air. Even a bit more aggressive.

Not saying that’s an easy combination to find mind at a reasonable price.

Botman was struggling with injuries last season and Burn is currently in the form of his life.

But the main reason for the gap between midfield and defence being better is Tonali, simple as that.

Howe has always wanted his defenders to press high. Botman was the perfect example of that in 22/23. In fact it was noticeable how much we missed that whenever Burn used to fill in for him. Thankfully Burn has begun to get better at that aspect and also it helps prevent his lack of pace being exposed by trying to win the ball high rather than dropping deep.

Because qualifying for CL is that important. If he is a professional Botman will understand that and not let it demotivate him.

There is not enough games left to justify letting him get up to speed.

Disagree, looked plenty up to speed when he came back in after a much longer lay-off. He was fantastic both legs of the semi against Arsenal. He's easily one of our best players, if he's fit then he should play.
