I'd start him injury won't be an issue now if he can start for u23s.  My main worry is Burn being an option at leftback again.

Hall surely has cemented that role

Surely Botman is ready. Kelly is at decent a best player with the potential to be solidly mediocre but he’ll be all over the shop against Spurs.

Even as poster renowned for “unusual” takes over the years this is right up there. No. He’ll be nowhere near ready to start a premier league game after 9 months out. Obviously.

Hall is too good at LB now. He's not just a stop gap anymore. His stats are through the roof. Burn will be rested now and again, which he no doubt needs.

He's already been building up, he's back in full training, and has been for a whole, he's played under 23s, and has also has been playing 11 vs 11s against quite likely a strong team in training matches. He was meant to be back on the bench for the last few games, but missed out due to illness.

If Bunce deems him good to go, and Eddie deems him the best option he'll start, my bet is the Arsenal game, as that's our best chance of a trophy. Bromley might be the easiest game, but he's more likely to take a random hit in that than any of the others.

Again. He has had a year out with an ACL injury and has played 60 minutes of competitive’ish football for the reserves. It takes time to build back up.

Being fit and match fit are two different things entirely. I’d be shocked if he started either and would imagine he’d look miles off it. Whole new level from what he has done so far.

Bromley seems like the perfect game to come back into the starting XI. Random hits or not. I think it’s something like 70-80% of ACL’s are non-contact injuries, anyway.

Physically he’s probably ready, it’s getting switched back on mentally. Against Arsenal a couple of mistakes could be game over and it will be a high intensity game, Bromley you’d expect to be more generous opponents and the game to be a slower pace

Wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the bench for the Spurs and Arsenal games, so he’s back in the match day routine and also as there’s barely enough players to fill the bench so it’s not like someone else misses out.

There is no perfect game to come back from an ACL. When you're ready, you're ready. Whether that's 45 mins, 60 mins, 75 mins whatever. You up the Minutes, not the level of opposition. The under 23s and training matches were the test for strength of the knee, now its time to play serious football.

Isn't it the mental aspects for the player though? Like their knee may be all good as per the physio, but playing against Spurs away will require him to push himself way harder than a u23 game etc

Tyrone Mings and VVD are just two centre backs recently that can be used as cautionary tales coming back from ACL’s.

So Botman is going to go from 60 mins for the reserves and not even being in a matchday squad for nearly a year. To starting away at Spurs or Arsenal? What absolute madness.

Won’t be up to speed or match sharp. Mentally it is tough and there are always slight concerns in the front and back of your mind. I’ve come back from 4 knee ops in the same knee. I had a great physio and sought after surgeon, fortunate enough to get specialist rehab. It all still doesn’t prepare you to just get chucked back in at that pace. This is playing about 10 leagues lower than Botman and all

Yeah not a chance he starts and nor should there be. Not unless we wanted to undo a lot of the good work he's done to get back. Needs to be eased back over the next 6 weeks or so. Even then he's probably going to be back up to Burn until he's truly back to full sharpness and playing like he used to.

When will he be ready then? After a 20 minute cameo back end of Spurs game?

TEE HEE

Botman's been in training for nearly 2 month, I don't know if that's been enough time to get him physically fit enough, especially with his recent illness, but if he is fully fit then why start an out of form Kelly who hasn't played in over a month himself?

Because context doesn't come into play with ACLs they're all handled the same, and handled the same way. So, it's lucky we got drawn to Bromley, or he'd maybe he'd not see game time until we get an "easy" game to play.

Like I said in 1 of the previous posts, if Bunce says he's good to go, and Eddie deems him the best choice he'll start 1 of the next 2 games.

Still think burn will be pushed into leftback when botman is fit enough to start matches. Howe loves big dan.

And rightly so. But I cannot see that happening, Hall is now integral to how we play. I imagine Botman won't be match/Howe fit for a couple of months anyway.

Only need to look at how he managed Tonali coming back in and he wasn't even injured.

I'm putting this out there.

Botman won't play a full 90 minutes until March.
