Sven Botman: targeting January return (Howe)

Recommended Posts

On a weirdly positive note. Might force the club to get a top end replacement WITH pace this summer.

I knew he was done for the season as it happened. Hope he come back to his original self as he’s never been the same post first injury.

Dear me, that injury twice must be fairly brutal, decent chance he'll never hit the heights of last season again.

No way that it is coincidence. He has looked a shadow of his former self since he returned so it was clearly still bothering him. Terrible from all involved in this, should have had surgery straight away.

And if he had made it through the next 10 games unscathed, we'd be praising the manager and medical team, yeah?

If something entirely different had happened, you’d have an entirely different opinion. I am very clever :shifty:

Looks clear now that his knee hasnt been right since early in the year. Explains his performances of late. Lets hope he makes a full recovery. ACLs arent the career killers they used to be. Most players come back to full strength, it could just a while to get fully up to speed...

Jesus fucking Christ. He’s not been right since he returned but this is the exact injury they thought would be better off “healing naturally”

Absolute blame on the manager and the medical team for this. They got it so wrong like countless other decisions this season.

We have extremely limited information, do not properly understand his diagnosis, and don't even know if it's the same knee. Of course it's possible we screwed up, but I think the uncertainty is so high it's basically impossible to have any conviction re our mistakes.

Someone needs sacking in the medical department, this should not have happened.  Feel massively for the lad.

Yep, someone has to be accountable, either the medical team are clueless or Howe ignores them.

Wouldn't be praising anyone for staying fit when you consider the performances he was putting in. He is our best defender but had got to the point where some were wanting to see Lascelles play ahead of him instead because he clearly wasn't himself.

Already been sacked and replaced haven’t they?

I’d imagine he had damaged his ACL and this is a rupture/them going with a graft to replace the damaged/snapped ligament.

Plenty of players comeback from an ACL these days. Not overly worried about that. It’s not like he’s had the op and then the graft has gone and then two ops. Which I’m told is the big worry when that happens.

Still massively pissed off at how badly we have managed the injury and feel sorry for him on a personal level.

Botman missed half of this season, Barnes missed half of this season, Tonali is obvs out all season, Isak missed half of last season and hasn’t been reliable this one and well Wilson misses half of every season as a matter of course. Jo is gone for the season, Pope has been out since the start of December. Anderson again, gone pretty much most of the season. We cannot be successful if this persists.

What an absolute shit show.

Got millions and we can't buy anyone.

Got Shithot players and they're always injured.

This again is another example of the financial rules being a load of shit, we will now be expected to continue to struggle on missing our best players because we can't afford to replace them, or have to sacrifice money in other positions that need strengthening to replace Botman.

As some of you know, I’m relatively well connected to Sven and his family… they didn’t see this coming at all. All scans in recent months have shown no need for surgery. He had one in Holland around 3 weeks ago that showed no damage and no need for surgery. Obviously the way he landed on Saturday has caused something significant to change, though.

And for those saying the medical staff and manager are to blame… well you’re fundamentally 100% incorrect, but you do you. Sven has seen multiple specialists both in the UK and the Netherlands, and has been reassured from every meeting until this point that surgery wasn't necessary.

So if you’re desperate to blame someone, blame the specialists for not promoting the idea of surgery. It has had absolutely nothing to do with Howe and his team.

WE have managed the injury based on multiple 3rd party specialists advice. Not entirely sure what else people want.
