I’m somewhere between thinking ‘daft cunt’ and *shrug*.  A text or phone call could’ve relayed the same message without the public hoo-ha.  Storm in a teacup stuff.

I’m also not sure I’m comfortable with this being a thing which shows maturity - I’ve went beserk at goals, shouted abuse at referees went things haven’t went my team’s way, and even shout at the telly when the match is on these days given I’m no longer there in person.  I’m going to guess pretty much everyone on here has done the same - and guess what lads; that’s not exactly a sign of solid emotional maturity when it comes to watching a game

We can't predict what he's going to do, I do imagine he will want a rise as he's an established premier League player. I think he won't play too much this season though so justifying it for us will be really tough.

That being said, Waugh said Leverkusen asked about him and we're told not for sale so I assume the plan is new deal for him.

Established is a bit of a reach, he's barely played for 2 years.

It's not that deep. It's liking your mate get a new job on social media.

The optics aren't the best, but the players won't be looking at it through the same lens as us.

This.

Absolutely weird behaviour that people on here think they can choose a footballer's friends for them.

Speaking of this lads future. The Dan Burn conundrum is an interesting one. He's clearly a better footballer, but Burn is in the form of his life and hasn't really put a foot wrong.

Unless he has an injury free period and then signs a new deal, I’m 70/30 in thinking (and wanting) him to be sold next summer.

As Botman will be seen as Burn successor, but if Burn is still at great levels do you put a lot of wage into Botman that is stop start injuries, or sell with 12 months left and get another young defender in who can push Burn for 26-27 season.

 You lads must get pure cheated on by your partners cos you're all jealous af

I’d say it’s more your best mate Mrs has cheated on him and left, then your Mrs likes the picture of your mates ex Mrs with her new partner that she cheated with.

Just unnecessary aggro if your mate is still not over it.

I agree with you, but wouldn't link anything you've said to the social post (not that you have here, just making my position clear). He's simply become too unreliable to stay fit.

*was

I don't think Botman's a better footballer than Dan Burn now.

Botman is clearly a classy defender and potential to be one of the best but his injury record is becoming suspect and until he can get on the pitch regularly we can't just be throwing more money at him to warm the treatment table.

As for his social media activity, who cares so long as he's committed and playing well?

Botman is an absolute Rolls Royce player, he's class. It's a bit strange how his stock seems to have fallen a bit just because Burn has been playing so well.

We should be building the defence around Botman and the 2 FBs long-term.

We should be, but we can't until Botman can stay fit for an extended period of time.

There's one obvious drawback to that plan - he can't stay fit.

Think it's just as much about Botman being injury prone.

Hes unable to challenge Burn or up his levels to offer the manager a headache because he's been so injured.

Great player and still young and don't want him to run down his contract but also right now not chomping at the bit to extend as he's not proven his fitness we dont want him on a 5 year deal playing under 20 fixtures a season.

The one positive of signing Botman to new deal, his remaining book value next summer is £7m, so new deal will mean he’s near enough no cost. Selling him will give us a boost, but then someone else will be higher book value and we will have to sign another CB anyway next summer because surely Schar moves on?

Edit: essentially I’m on side at the moment (irrelevant to social media post) that he’s sold next summer, but if club plan to move on Schar, I can understand the rationale and the need to keep him, both for ability and not wanting to sign two defenders.

Just please have an injury free season first.

I rate Botman highly and wouldn’t want to see him leave, but I doubt you’ll ever be able to rely on him to play twice per week. He’ll always need his minutes managed.

Fortunately I reckon Burn has years left in him.

You missed all his injuries?
