Me too for what they've done, but Botman is IMO the one we should build the future defence around.

I don't disagree but Burn and Schar are pretty much undroppable at the moment

I love Sven but if you were to ask me to rank our best ever defenders then both Burn and Schar are ahead of him for me

He hasn't been fit and in match form since september 2023 though. Literally 2 years ago.

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or if you think he's ahead of Schar and Burn?

It's a bit hard for me to rank a player who has really only had 1 proper season with us, against some who has played 3,5 or more. Botman was excellent in that season when he actually was fit and played. Probably even better than Burns last season.

I mean I agree with @AyeDubbleYoo - all things being equal, i.e. all fit, Botman is absolutely who we should be building the defence around. His ability on the ball, defensive ability, age and overall ceiling are all exactly what you'd want to plan around for the next 5+ seasons. Obviously his injury record changes that arithmetic but I'm hopeful he can overcome those.

I feel as though Burn has been pretty much flawless for months

I agree. Botman was also flawless in that season, for pretty much the entire season. We kept a bunch of clean sheets with him and Schar. He also did very well in the build up, which isn't one of Burns strengths.

These are called different point of views and kind of the point of this place.

People will have different opinions on various matters, id say being able to manage that and respond to the point is emotional maturity but that's just my 2c.

It takes me back to a conversation I had with @Heron (who is one of the nicest people on here imo) and we were basically discussing this he explained to me that he took a positive approach and even though I tend to be more pragmatic and attempt to read between the lines and had differing opinions to him he always responds with a great deal of respect.

Sorry for the tangent I just wanted to mention, but in terms of practicality we have an ignore function to which anyone is welcome to use.

Cheers mate. Very kind of you.

woodgate if it was purely on talent.

For the brief period he was fit - agreed.  But Schar though shear consistency especially since Eddie has com in.

Its hard to know what to do save splitting matches between Burn and Botman to share the load. Hopefully neither will spit out the dummy.

We're going to play enough games between now and Christmas for them both to get enough gametime.

Same with most positions in the squad now.

It’s quite possible to wish someone luck but potentially behind closed doors think they handled it poor , people need to realise players seldom love the club as much as a fan and at the end of the day it’s just a job for them

No... Players need to realise that fans love the club more than almost anything, and not publicly post a "congratulations & best wishes" to someone who so egregiously shat on it.

I personally don't care about the tweets, but I can understand the perspective of those that do.  Yes, it's just a job to most players, but it's a job they're well paid for only because of fans who pour so much of their hard-earned into the clubs they support.  Players should have more awareness of that and privately wish a fond farewell to rat mates they've supposedly "growed" relationships with.

Another who I imagine absolutely despises Isak.

He's absolutely the best defender I've seen play for Newcastle overall. Obviously Woodgate was absurdly good, but his injury record was fucking abysmal, as everyone knows. Schar's durability is something else.

Fucker will probably score against Barcelona
