So you think sacking off our better players when they're at their lowest value since joining is the right message to send to not only our current squad but prospective signings?

If I was a Newcastle player, I'd know I was at the right club seeing Botman signing a new contract.

It shows we back our players when they are down as long as we believe in them.

Not a good time to make this argument, but when fit and in form I would have him absolutely being able to play for anyone in the league. He's class, when available.

I'd say Thiaw is more likely to end up a sub than Botman, even though I love him too.

He wouldn't get into Arsenal or city's 11 if they have defenders fully fit, also he would probably start for his country.

I really feel for him, the injuries he's had have hindered many a career in the past, I do hope he can get back to his best but you do worry he might breakdown before he gets a good run of games, hopefully he gets a break so he can string a good amount of games together until end of season.

Hmm, not sure about his country, he could easily surpass VVD soon although I don't know who else he's competing with.

I mean, you've name the best 2 clubs in the country there so it's not too shameful that he wouldn't necessarily start there. He could play at that level though, that was my main point.

Peak Botman is probably better than Thiaw, so its not a bad argument. The problem/doubt is if the injuries has made him decline.

You would imagine Wilson has taken advice from the medical staff on long term impact of those injuries  before handing out a bumper contract.

Absolutely. Unless he is completely incompetent in which case we're in trouble.

Well there is always that, but if we've managed to appoint another dud DOF then it might be time to call it a day with PIF and take our chances with the sharks circling from the USA.

The way I'd hope it would work would be as follows:
1) Sit down and review current contract length, wages, terms.

2) Review medical recommendations (assuming a report was requested, I'd hope so) regarding short and long term prognosis.

3) Call in Eddie and discuss his thoughts regarding an extension, needs, value, future plans for him if any.

4) Make the call to either offer an extension, try and sell or let his contract run down.

For someone as talented as.he is, its insane hes not had a senior international call up yet

I think he was blackballed for refusing an under-21 call-up and has been pretty consistently injured since.

He's seemed a lot more comfortable having Hall outside of him. Hasn't had to be sucked out to the touchline much the two games together.

Thought he looked good against Wolves. Might not have been much of a test but it's another stepping stone for him to get back to his best.
