So that means, in FFP terms, we have made a profit on Chris Wood???

Broke even. Bought for £25m on a 2.5 year deal. Attracted £10m of amortisation while here, sold for £15m while valued at £15m on our books.

It's a sweet deal in isolation, but I can't help but think that giving them Shelvey makes up for it.

In isolation, I'd have given them Shelvey too. I think that deal looks worse because we didn't get anyone else in.

No doubt but I count that as part of it. If we'd replaced Shelvey, I wouldn't consider selling Shelvey a mistake.

Factor in the 4m loan fee and it's profit?

I’m not convinced we managed to rinse Forest for an almost-guaranteed £15m transfer fee and a £4m loan fee on top to be honest. But we’ve also paid him about £4m in wages over the last year so it would still be a break even.

I think the Shelvey deal looked worse becasue of the Bruno red card/same day. Realistically, Shelvey was nowhere near the first team anymore (with BG, JL, SL, JW in front of him), and I doubt, barring an injury crisis that Howe had any intentuion of using him, and activating the contract extension.

According to NUFC.com, our most recent sales for more than £10m:

Jul 2019: Ayoze Perez -> Leicester £30m

Jul 2018: Alexander Mitrovic -> Fulham £22M

Jul 2018: Mikel Merino -> Real Sociedad £10.5M

Aug 2016: Mousssa Sissoko -> Tottenham £30M

Jul 2016: Gini Wijnaldum -> Liverpool £25m

Really goes to highlight just how ran into the ground Ashley has made us.

Jan 2014: Yohan Cabaye -> PSG £18m (should have been higher, possibly)
Jan 2011: Andy Carroll -> Liverpool £35M

Some of those players went on crazy inflation due to their unexpected form. Merino in hindsight is poor return. Thauvin would have been as well, too bad he wasn't up for it.

In comparison to? It's not been great, but I personally wouldn't say pathetic. That's Sunderland or Everton territory. :)

Everton have loads:

- 2022 Richarlison 60m

- 2023 Gordon 45m

- 2021 Digne 25m

- 2019 Vlasic 14m

- 2019 Lookman 18m

- 2019 Gueye 30m

- 2018 Klaasen 18m

- 2017 Lukaku 75m

- 2017 Deloefeu 10m

= 2017 Barkley 15m

- 2016 - Stones 45m

And that's just going back to 2016.

:lol: my recency bias is on full display. Apologies to the Scouse Mackems, OG Mackems for the win.

Think Nobody was more implying that given how inflationary prizes are recently, the fact that up until a month ago, the only asset we've sold that has been more that £10m was over 4 years ago, and to only sell 5 in an 8 year period shows just how poorly we'd been run under Ashley.

For a penny pinching billionare like Ashley, you'd think he'd have a better understanding of asset valuation, appreciation. A good lesson in capital investment that doing the bare minimum usually results in average or below average yield.

Jul 2019: Ayoze Perez -> Leicester £30m - good deal for us. Bad for Leicester, not terrible though

Jul 2018: Alexander Mitrovic -> Fulham £22M good deal for Fulham. Good fee for us at the time.

Jul 2018: Mikel Merino -> Real Sociedad £10.5M Good deal for Sociedad. Didn't do enough to justify much more.

Aug 2016: Mousssa Sissoko -> Tottenham £30M Good deal for us. Never won over the Spurs fans but he played over 200 games for them

Jul 2016: Gini Wijnaldum -> Liverpool £25m Good deal for Liverpool. Light fee in retrospect

Really goes to highlight just how ran into the ground Ashley has made us.

Going down with a team that included Perez, Mitrovic, Sissoko & Wijnaldum is a crime. Never once played Sissoko and Wijnaldum in CM, instead we had Colback & Anita. Jesus wept.
