I know he's a pro and wants to win things, but would he be happy just being a cog in a machine without the adulation? He'd obviously be popular if he does well but he's practically hero-worshipped here.

He's one of the best in the world where he is, still playing at the highest level, and his family seem settled and happy. I know City for instance could give him another £100k a week or however much but I'm leaning more into thinking he'll stay, unless we feel we have to sell due to FFP to sign 2-3 other top players.

I've had jobs where I've been paid more and been miserable, I'd 100% sacrifice money over happiness all day long. Bruno is clearly on top of the world here but who knows how he sees it, only him I guess.

I don't think he'd be anyway as close to as happy as he is here, but to some that's not everything. Anyway, it's all conjecture until it's fact so I'm not worrying about what isn't material.

Baffled at the suggestion he wouldn’t go to another English club. People really do swallow the PR fluff.

Another PL club yes, Villa no, he does actually seem to like it here.  That might not be enough to keep him from Man City, but I see no reason why he'd be making a big change for a club like Villa.  Of course if we wanted to sell him I've little doubt, but as a release clause I think he'd need a good offer to move.

Especially when Villa are in the Champions League.

Yeah and next season when Villa don't qualify he can look for another team temporarily in the CL to move to, us probably.. ;D

I thought the release clause was inserted in case Barcelona or Real Madrid wanted Bruno.

That was what the quote suggested. Talked about “dream clubs” and I’m sure Ashworth mentioned they were abroad.

Anyway, if this is going to happen we may well see movement this week because Copa America starts later this week.

Pay up or shut up.

He'll have Champions League football and be surrounded by the best talent in the world at City, but one thing he won't have is the absolute adulation from the fans the way he does with us.

Always thought this would be the way teams would try to play it. Try and unsettle him so he actively pushes leave, which then leads to a better negotiating position for said team. Fortunately (please god) Bruno doesn't seem to the type who agitates. All the noises from his camp have been very "I'm happy to stay, if the release clause is activated then who knows."

Do think this likely means there is either a lower release clause in the deal for next Summer if we don't get CL. Or some form of verbal agreement that we won't stand in his way if we're not in CL and reasonable bid comes in.

And with their fans he won’t be able to reciprocate it. It’s a love story. He stays 🖤🤍

The speculation, if anything, will ramp up once the clause is no longer in effect, imo.

How come? Because then more teams may be in the frame? Especially late in the window?
