PauloGeordio
3 minutes ago, Erikse said: Interview from Howe when we signed Bruno "When asked if such a goal was on Bruno's highlights reel, Howe confessed he's been signed to play as a number 6 more than anything else." He said: "Goal-scoring is not something he has made a name for himself doing but he is capable of the unexpected and that is what he did. "The goal was something we probably did not expect from him but shows his technical ability and he is going to be a huge player for us." It seems like Howe made up his mind about it like 2,5 years ago. Not changing it anytime soon either.

From Bruno himself: “But if I have to choose I prefer to be a ‘segundo volonte’ (a box-to-box). It was the role I played at Athletico Paranaense and Lyon. But I can also play as the most defensive midfielder.

He was coming under pressure from the opposition, emerging with it and finding a team mate quite often. Yes he will sometimes lose it, but I think he only holds it because there's not much movement around him.
nemtizz
We either need a creative CM or a progressive DM to help him out. He can’t be stuck between both roles because of his lack of pace and final ball. It’s almost a burden how well rounded he is.
nemtizz
Ideally sign a 6 and use him as an 8. Sad to see how misused he is.

We know he’s not a traditional DM. At Lyon he played as the more advanced player in a pivot with Maxence Caqueret as the deeper of the two. I think him and Tonali as a pivot is worth a shot but it's just a completely different way to how Howe currently uses his midfield. Tonali and Joelinton are almost out on the touchline half the time we have the ball. Edited October 28, 2024 by Smal

But he has looked a shadow of himself since returning.

Think I was the lone voice when he signed for us and everyone was being blinded by his skill levels and effort not to mention his undoubted charm. I constantly said there was no fear of an Elite club coming in for him and paying £100m. There are levels and he falls into a similar one to Merino at Arsenal. Rolls Royce in many ways but not got that great athleticism that elevates them to the top tier. Our midfield as whole needs a rethink and I still think Tonali creates as many problems as he solves which I reminded people of before his return as if he was the saviour. Solve the midfield problem and add pace to the centre of the defence (probably a connected issue to the midfield problem) and we aren’t far away amongst the top half dozen teams again. Miley definitely has an eye for a pass, I'm not sure how good he is driving at defences from the hole though or finding those pockets of spaces. Lush Vlad
Anyone seen a clip back from when he was fouled when through on goal? Not heard much mention of it or seen it on TV. But a few people have said to me it was a blatant foul and could have been a red?
GEFAFWISP
Can't wait for his retirement homecoming where he goes on the pitch at half time in 20 years weighing 40 clem the slothful kinder nonce. Jacamo Guimaraes.

I think I'd be tempted to try 4132 with Longstaff as the 1. That way the usual 3 can play ball further up the pitch and we can stop the number 10 issue and can also apply pressure from the front with Isak and Gordon. Bruno would remain central of the 3. KaKa
Been a while since we saw Bruno playing with so much freedom and looking to make things happen in the final third, and I loved it. Really think he could be the creative force this team often needs with the role switch. Glad Howe gave it a go today, and the result looked so promising.
