I just remember them being a much of a muchness team down there. Didn't really do anything of note and only eventually got out of it via the Play offs. They hardly swept the league away like Birmingham just have.
Stal
This "everyone's cup final" thing is a bit daft, cup finals are played at Wembley. They were more like "everyone's drawing a higher league team in a bigger stadium in a cup draw" for a bit until the novelty wore off.
Optimistic Nut
54 minutes ago, GallowgatePigeon said: At what point do they stop being 'everybody's cup final' and just become another once famous name amongst a sea of dross? I think it probably happened somewhere between 2018-19 but I get the idea their fans still hold onto this notion. It must be like when Arbroath would play Queen's Park at Hampden Park in a league game or something daft soon.
Groundhog63
All the "little" clubs in League 1 did look forward to watching their team play at the Stadium of Light, very much so. I mean who wouldn't? Train upto Newcastle or fly upto Newcastle. Stay in one of the many city centre hotels in Newcastle. Metro down to trampsville for the match. Nice easy draw Metro back to Newcastle to celebrate the away point in a vibrant, friendly city. What's not to like!?
bobbydazzla
They turn the dial on their importance and size to suit their batshit mental narratives. The Maktracking usually goes like this: Start of game Club X only ever get a decent crowd in Stadium Y when Sunderland play there because we're a massive club and everyone wants to be there when we're in town and we're like a cup final to them and they want to see our world class generational talent End of game Look at all them pathetic Club X fans jumping about and celebrating in Stadium Y just because they've beaten little old Sunderland who were in League 1 a couple of seasons ago and most of our players are inexperienced young kids Edited May 8 by bobbydazzla

I like how the ones at the front after the bus passes go to double up as more fans and fill in the empty spaces down the line. Something for them to have considered for every home cup they've ever had perhaps. Edited May 8 by Wolfcastle

Ben
Next seasons Championship will be a cracker, if Sunderland are part of it they'll be in bother, if they get promoted they are fucked.

Wolfcastle
If being booed off after their final game, all of a couple hundred fans stopping back to show appreciation for the season, then having twelve people wave flags around and setting off flares in a car park to make up for it doesn't motiviate them then nothing will.
