The Championship is getting worse every season and the promoted teams are getting fewer points. For some teams with money and ambition it might be possible to throw a huge amount of money on transfers and gamble on survival but if the owners don't have the means or ambition their teams will struggle massively. I wouldn't say the Championship is getting worse like, its more that the sheer amount of money in the Premier League means the Premier League is just getting better, the fact that even your Bournemouth's and your Brentford's can spend alot of money on the best players around from far flung places, means the top division is just getting further ahead. To be honest, its shit, as their isnt a whole lot the EFL can do about it, as the funds just arn't there unless you're lucky enough to have parachute payments. Eventually it will turn into an existential crisis for football in this country, as the Premier League slowly becomes a closed shop.
Checko Posted Sunday at 11:35 Share Posted Sunday at 11:35 Yeah I feel the overall standard of the league, particularly the midtable teams, is getting better and better.

So happy they didn't win, but overall still frustrating that they're right up there. It's not like for like. Yes, Sheff Utd would have expected to win at home to Hull, but Hull had taken 10 points from their previous 7 games under their new new manager (now 13 from 8), have made signings in January, we're expected to finish midtable at the start of the season and have now won 5 away matches. Plymouth in contrast, haven't won away all season, haven't won at all since Nov 5th, and had taken only 4 points from their last 12 games. One fixture was an absolute banker and a gift, the other was a potential banana skin. With Burnley playing Leeds on Monday and at least one of them guaranteed to drop points, this was an ideal opportunity for Sunderland to make significant ground on 2 or 3 of the teams above them, and they made a pigs ear of it. KennyUtd Posted Tuesday at 18:09 Share Posted Tuesday at 18:09 (edited) Very funny thread on today about a Sunderland supporting woman with a gay daughter who called TalkSport this morning, very upset about all the homophobic chanting at the SOL. Swiftly became all about gravy and has now descended into abuse about her looks and she's a real hard case. A couple of people who know her have assured everyone that she's definitely a MLF. It's not going well. Poor Lindsay. 😆😁😄 Edit: The homophobic chanting isn't the funny part obviously. It's the indignation from the forum contributors that's funny. Just to be clear...phew. Sima Posted Tuesday at 18:33 Share Posted Tuesday at 18:33 No surprise that an allegation like that swiftly moved into misogyny and trying to blame Newcastle fans.
UV Posted Tuesday at 21:46 Share Posted Tuesday at 21:46 The Regis Prayer Our Regis on the touchline, hallowed be your name, Your league title will come, your will be done, in the stadium and in heaven, Give us today the 3 points we crave, And forgive our booing before, As we forgive previous defeats, And lead us not to league one, But deliver us the premier league and beyond, For the stadium of light is the kingdom, Sunderland needs the glory, Forever and ever, Amen

Karjala Posted Tuesday at 22:05 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:05 Watched about 10 championship games this season, not many I know, but can't think of a single good one. Standard has been shocking.

Standard has been shocking. Watched bits of Burnley vs Sunderland and Burnley vs Leeds, both were painful to watch. I'd rather watch non league for entertainment. I think part of the problem is that they are all now trying to emulate the way PL teams play, keeping possession and building from the back but frankly they're just not up to it and it descends into an error strewn bore fest. No wonder the SOL is the stadium with the most empty seats in football year after year. They should just play to their strengths and go direct if necessary. It would be far more entertaining. Harry 209
I hate Sunderland but I'd be very surprised if the SoL in 2025 is non stop homophobic abuse. Especially weird when she says its in the concourse among her friends.

Who knows, but one thing I do know is that it's the only ground I've been to since the Premier League era began where I've personally witnessed widespread racism from a large section of the crowd. Olivier Bernard would testify for me.
