It is strange seeing their confidence after they finished so far behind Leeds and Burnley last season.

I know nothing of the players they have signed other than Adringa who has been decent when I have seen him at times and at least looks like he belongs in the PL.

They have a squad full of championship players and new signings which are a massive gamble. Brighton were quite happy to let Adingra go. Last season he did nothing of note. The fact that all but one of their current signings, could be missing games due to the AFCON, does not represent good transfer business, in a season where they are odds on favourites to go back down.

It's OK...  they are aware that they have to adjust because of the AFCON.  They simply reset their expectation from title contenders to European qualification....  :D

Its on the Fossway, opposite the Turbina, the one with all the CCTV

Good luck

Do you mean opposite Chop Ooo - used to be the Fosse pub? The Tub is further along the Fossway. Wouldn't want him to get the wrong house by accident !!!!

Why do they never, ever, ever learn?!?!  Apart from anything else, it's thoroughly awful behaviour and any half-decent human being just wouldn't behave in that manner.  If any of our lot did that to Hilary Briss I'd be appalled, and I appreciate that's not a direct comparison but I don't have the first clue who their assistant coach is and I doubt half the posters on this board do, either.

Burnley will be in for a shock.  They were promoted on the back of an incredibly good defence, they simply didn't concede goals.

The problem they're going to come up against, and it's the same issue that Sunderland are going to face as well, is the time and space that defenders get in the Championship simply doesn't exist in the Premiership.  Teams with a high press will be on to any loose ball or any players holding the ball slightly too long.  You can get away with that in the Championship but will get slaughtered for it in the Premiership.

Watching the play-off final you could see both teams making minor mistakes that weren't punished because the players weren't capable of pouncing on those lapses but you could see that a Premiership player would be all over them.

Pre-season friendlies against teams that don't play with a high press don't show how good they're going to be this season once they go up against teams that have a well-drilled press.

Think what it is is dickhead fanbases like Wolves just need to have one season of being in the top half to get all Billy Big Bollocks towards clubs that have been ahead of them for the previous 30years and going on like they're some sort of established force but ol' Sunderland with two top half finishes in 60years don't have that luxury so they've got to get it in before a ball has been kicked.

They're trying to sign Granit Xhaka

Really hope they dont get him like, would be a cracking signing

The silly cunts are getting a little bit carried away of course...

Haway KLD, get this done quickly. Be a truly amazing signing and would lead to other higher quality signings. Would almost guarantee we would stay up and gives us a great chance of competing higher up.

Hope so mate.

On paper, Granit Xhaka would be a huge improvement.

From talking to friends on Wearside, they've been linked with dozens of players, which most are finding quite exciting. I think if my team had been singing largely EFL free transfers for several years I'd be bowled over by a link to someone like Xhaka.

I'm curious to see who else they add to the team. Right now it seems short of experienced heads, but I try not to judge these things until after the window is shut.

Can someone explain the 'catts for me like' joke?

It was a quote on RTG a few years back on a thread asking who they'd rather have between Lee Cattermole and some other, probably much much better midfielder.

The reply (from at least a few of them) was "Catts for me, like"

I think it was Cabaye.

Circa 2011/12 RTG had one of it’s famous/numerous ‘Combined XI’ threads, in which they would argue about why it would consist of a 9/2 split in favour of Sunderland players over Newcastle players.

When discussing the central midfield, which at the time probably consisted of Cabaye and Tiote for us, a number of posters commented that it was “Catts for me like”, in picking Lee Cattermole over our options.
