Bet you there was loads of them who live outside Sunderland that received guards of honour as they walked into work this morning.

I also heard they were clapped out of pubs up and down the country after the final whistle.

People shouting 'Up The Mackems' out of car windows throughout the UK.

The Guardian comments section under Weez Keyz match report seemed to have an unusually large concentration of "neutrals happy the good guys had won" this morning

"Everton fan here, just want to say how happy I am for all you Sunderland supporters for yesterday's result. Up The Mackems!"

"Crawley fan in peace, we cancelled my daughters wedding so we could watch this, in the hope you'd win, and you did! We're all crying at how wonderful you are, apart from my daughter. She was looking forward for the cake because she's an absolute unit. Best of luck for the rest of the season, you handsome bastads"

They mustn't believe their luck yesterday.

We live near loads and every single one of them said they'd take a draw yesterday, then they announced that line up...

We were so poor we gifted them a win that they never expected. Fucking Newcastle eh.

Just watched the local news opening with our fans behaviour towards Sunderland fans heading to the ground.

Vandalism of the club bus....

Racism reports towards a Sunderland player during the game.

Anyone who was in that crowd behaving like that, throwing bottles at people....  should be massively ashamed of themselves. Any repercussions following are thoroughly deserved.

Absolutely shameful.

The fans can't control what happens on tve pitch but they can represent us off it, and despite it being a minority, they've failed as miserably as the players.

Here’s my two-penneth. There was quite an intimidatory feel walking up to the ground, at about 9:15 ffs. Walked through a crowd of 30-40 Newcastle fans (who were probably not going to the game) who looked rough as fuck and were clearly looking for trouble. The noise at the start of the match was ear splitting and felt amazing. Great display by Wor Fans, amazing goal celebration. I was in the ‘posh’ seats but at the Leazes end of the Milburn, couldn’t hear their fans throughout the first half though they looked animated, on occasion. Felt at the time we really needed a goal at the end of the first half. Nearly happened, which would have demoralised the fuck out of them, but we are all aware that it didn’t and our players looked ponderous and frozen at times second half. Maybe it is just the slo-mo of traumatic events! But given we are supposedly the team used to big matches and atmospheres they just didn’t step up to the occasion. Don’t know if it has been mentioned but Lewis Hall in particular looked genuinely devastated at the end. Can’t doubt that it mattered to him/them.

We acted like bell ends yesterday, well a lot did

It can bring out the worst of even the seemingly respectable and sensible fan (on both sides). If somebody had looked at me the wrong way or said the wrong thing on the way back through town it wouldn’t have ended well. I was absolutely fizzing with feral tribalism.

"We went back to Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden after the match and on our way up Whitehall, had about 10 people who looked like foreign students come up and randomly gave me and Josh hugs and a couple of them shouted Ha'way The Lads."

"On my way home to East London on Saturday I called in the pub and couldn’t move for strangers coming up to me and wishing me well. Walked up the road with a takeaway and was stopped 4 times and had people shouting “come on Sunderland” and “up the mackems” out of car windows as they went past. Absolutely surreal"

That looks like it's someone from here taking the piss but it isn't, it's actually on that thread.
