I wish everyone would stop pretending to know what he did for you. :lol:The speculation is off the charts on here, but reputable sources were glowing about his impact.

Very different situation where he literally lasted a few months at us.

 well we know what he didn't do here... yet the media and man utd fans were falling over themselves to give him credit for identifying and signing Isak, Bruno, Botman, Gordon etc

Yeah, exactly. We all knew he wasn't really as involved in recruitment.

But likely helped put departments in place and staffed them, as we had none of that under Ashley.

Please don't come for the only thing we have left.

 By losing Ashworth you've not lost what you thought you were gaining when he arrived imo. As we said at the time (just getting that in there) he's basically a facilitator. He seems to be very good at that, but the stuff that still gets attributed to him (scouting and signings mainly) is well wide of the mark. When he came here the Brighton forums were saying that, then not long after we were saying exactly the same.

Rio Ferdinand classic…

cant remember who it was but someone told me to search his “ballon d’or” clip from last season. Somehow it’s even more cringeworthy than the video you’ve posted.

So £5.5m to us for his services and £4.1m to dispose of him 159 days later

Where has the £5.5m come from? £4.1m were the total costs for Ashworth's involvement with us. Including hiring and firing costs. Newcastle got ~£2m for him.

Still bad of course.

Just seen a couple of tweets today. Obviously could be repeating a lie. I assumed it must’ve come from the accounts announce today?

Aye, £4.1m in total for Ashworth which included compensation to Newcastle and severance. Minging.

Accounts also showed that we've now crossed the £1b mark in interest payments from Glazer debt since 2005, and debt now stands at >£1b. Without the INEOS injection, cash balance would be non-existent.

A sorry state of affairs.

No way did we only get 2 million for him either , we had both Ashworth and that despicable freak running the club over a barrel.

There's conflicting reports.  Some said £2m initially, then I think in December there was some noise about £5m and the lower figure being used by Man Utd sources for a PR win.

The £4.1m figure indicates to me that it doesn't include the comp Man Utd paid to us.

He had 18 months gardening leave at Newcastle, so presumably a 18 month notice period, and an annual salary of £1.5m.

Assuming similar structure at Man Utd that would put his total cost at:

£0.75m 6 months base salary

£2.25m PILON

£0.40m E'er NI

=£3.4m total cost to Man Utd excluding comp to Newcastle

I would assume he received a significant pay rise when moving to Man Utd to bridge the gap to £4.1m.

Of course there could've been a negotiated settlement to allow him to return to work earlier for a smaller notice period pay off but I doubt he's in any rush to get another job.

The Daily Mail reporter claiming his sources say it includes the comp paid to Newcastle only appears to report on Man Utd, so his sources would be questionable at best given the £2m vs. £5m ambiguity.

The truth is that none of us really know.  It's guesswork at best and sources on both sides are dodgy due to how publicly it played out.
