Ronaldo Posted Monday at 04:49 Share Posted Monday at 04:49 Yep, he is. Certainly can’t miss him. He’s become close with some fans including my uncles and aunties. Nice bloke apparently. Pope’s mum too.

kenlau88210 Posted Monday at 19:13 Share Posted Monday at 19:13 Sadly I don’t see him staying if we get a good keeper. Given how good he still is it is difficult to see him being happy as 2nd choice or even rotate with the incoming keeper.

Yeah one year left on his deal as well so presumably would be our last chance to get some cash for him. That said I really rate Pope and his kicking doesn't bother me as much as most I think, plus he seems a top lad, so I'm still perfectly happy with him as our keeper. Anyone we get to replace him had better be bloody good. Edited Monday at 19:23 by Checko
SiLvOR Posted Monday at 19:25 Share Posted Monday at 19:25 Fucking love Pope, just got a massive soft spot for him as he's really been fantastic for us, and seems a quality lad to boot. I'd be far too sentimental to be a football manager

alexf Posted Monday at 19:35 Share Posted Monday at 19:35 It's the logical sensible step to take to cash in. We all have bemoaned not doing so with Wilson, Almiron etc in the past. However if we did do that, we have to accept there might be a tricky period of adjustment when a new keeper comes in. I wouldn't be shocked if anyone we got was an inferior shot stopper as Pope is excellent in that regard. However we would hopefully gain in other areas like being able to pass them the ball without it being an absolute panic every time. Like Pope though and would prefer he stayed and moved into the no.2 role long term but in a PSR world he would probably still command a decent fee for us if we sold this summer. nemtizz Posted Monday at 19:39 Share Posted Monday at 19:39 Truly hope we never sign a keeper that is good with his feet. It's utter woke nonsense. Give me a shot stopper like Popey that boots it out of play every. single. time.

Genuinely confused why you want this? I’m an older supporter, played to a good standard back in the day so probably a dinosaur but a big strong keeper who catches / clears crosses and makes great saves will always earn you more points than some wannabe midfielder that jumps out the way of hard shots. our friends down the road had one years ago Sorensen… decent with his feet but shit scared of the ball

Monters Posted Monday at 21:54 Share Posted Monday at 21:54 (edited) I’m also mystified how anyone could watch the Everton game and think keeper is our problem! I’m not arrogant enough to think I know better than the club so if they decide to go for a new keeper I’ll support and wind my neck in but until then. I truly believe we have more urgent improvements to make. Edited Monday at 21:54 by Monters
Mazzy Posted Monday at 22:11 Share Posted Monday at 22:11 It is possible to actually sign a goalkeeper that's good with his feet and a good shot stopper as well. It's doesn't have to be just one or the other. We aren't great at keeping hold of the ball amongst the 10 outfield players as it is, we desperately need a GK that helps us retain the ball as much as possible. When you play against Arsenal/Liverpool/City or even Villa and Brighton you're at an immediate disadvantage because their keepers are like an extra outfield player in build up or when teams press their defence. We can't do that at all and that needs to change next season.
The College Dropout Posted Monday at 22:11 Share Posted Monday at 22:11 Pickford’s not that good with his feet. He can rake a long one on a sixpence SOMETIMES. But other times it’s useless. And he doesn’t use common sense. I’ll never forget the amount of times he booted it straight to a Spanish player in the euros final in that second half. Kane didn’t win anything all night neither did Watkins but Pickford kept launching it.

Everyone else you take something and lose something.

What good is a keeper chucking them in but splitting the lines to a midfielder who gives it away?

It's just about knowing that your defenders can pass it back to the goalkeeper and the entire team and stadium won't be filled with anxiety when it happens. Pope has had a great couple of months and proved me wrong because I thought he was finished post-surgery (and tbf he did have a major weakness down to his left for months afterwards), but pretty much all good teams have a keeper who can control the ball comfortably now. I’ll concede the first, argue the second but the third is finished in my humble opinion. As always apologies if assumptions are wrong
