People are way overreacting to that goal IMO. When you're that close and leather it there's very little a keeper can do other than try and make himself big to get the best % chance of it hitting him and staying out. Even if you do a good job with that sometimes it's just not going to go your way. He's saved plenty this year doing similar, yesterday the odds didn't fall in his favour.

He needs to be replaced in the summer, too many mistakes and soft goals, crisp packet hands at times. It's close between him and ramsdale but suppose Pope does sweep up more.

Distribution less a concern last 3 games as we seem to have adjusted for shorter balls from him.

Would take Trafford if we could entice him, but I suspect he'll go to Villa.

He's conceded a few goals recently when it seems his preference is to try to let the ball hit him rather than trying to get his arms out to it.

Great when it comes off sometimes when he comes out and makes himself big, but when it doesn't it looks sort of comical like last night.

Annoying that Sunderland signed a solid, youngish keeper for under £12m while we fruitlessly chased Trafford for years.

Considering how well the likes of Bruno, Botman and now Thiaw have performed, it's frustrating how focused we've been on Premier League experience the last few years.

Sounds like Marmadashvili was also on the list and a top target.

The shoulder injury has ruined him.. he will do anything but use his left arm

Alot of work needed potentially on the back 4 I worry giving Pope that year extension means we try and stick with what we have for another season.

Been in need of an upgrade or at the very least competition for 2 years now the club know this in their pursuit of goal keeper targets but may take a back seat is we need 2/4 of the back 4 replacing/adequate cover.

To a point I agree with you but like with Ramsdale I feel like they're mainly just making saves you'd "expect" them to make and not so much the ones they "could have" saved.

Not that neither of them have made good saves but I just feel like we've conceded a number of goals where our keepers haven't covered themselves in glory and it's a problem for us.

The argument for Pope was that whilst his distribution was not great he made up for it in other areas. I'm finding him lacking in those other areas this season.

well even the elite have chinks in their armour but you're looking for some degree of confidence in your keepers, Pope' dependability has waned since his injury and he's become mentally impulsive. Ramsdale I have no confidence in him whatsoever

for what we paid and what he has contributed he has been an amazing signing for us however as with some of our other players we have hung on and kicked the can down the road so long that he seems to have regressed so much be it lack of confidence in his own body or just age and injuries taking away that sharpness.

Its likely going to cost a significant sum to buy a replacement and even then they are likely to have their own weaknesses we will need to accept/work around unless we hit on lucky. But its getting to the time it needs to happen as he is part of the reason we have become so "leaky" at the back and impacts our ability to combat other teams pressing etc.

It's become critical, I hope we have scouted other options bar Trafford

As I said earlier its critical but still might have to wait.

come the summer:

BDB 12 months left

Krafth likely gone?

Trips likely gone?

Targett loan ended and out of contract

Lacelles loan ended and out of contract

Schar extend or not?

Tino going or not?

Ramsdale for the love of god please dont make it permanent

Even if we extend most of our older players by another year we need already

LB competition

RB competition

RCB cover/competition

possibly LCB future planning

Ideally pope drops to the bench and we go big on a new no1 but not sure pope will want to drop to the bench and also not sure the club can do all that back 5 business in the summer when most of that work doesnt get offset with any sales to fund it.

there's a lot to dive into there but we have to prioritise our strengthening and GK is at the top for me, provided we don't lose a purple

I think its all a priority thats the issue.

Another factor is if we are playing in Europe next season any European competition will require a bigger squad and more rotation due to fixture congestion. Should we find ourselves out of Europe I can honestly see the club delaying some of the harder choices for another year.

The merits of how right or wrong that would be is very much open to debate, I agree I like our first choice RB/LB I have enjoyed Thiaw in the main this season despite him getting no rest and thrown in the deep end and if Botman can ever stay fit I think our current "best" back four is fine albeit a little immobile. So you would say the next "urgent" position is no1 keeper but again you can make an argument to say none of this can wait the backline is getting too old, too injury prone to gamble on it being ok as is for another 12+ months.

not knowing the budget or whether we'll be in Europe or not obviously has a bearing on any transfer debate at this point but most have highlighted our need for GK, CB, LB or RB and maybe a DM. Let's see
