I feel really sad seeing this decline. Less than a year ago, he made an incredible stop against Jones in the final which I think was absolutely crucial in us getting over the line. He's just been so poor this season though, not to mention injured again. Ah, man. Time to move on, hopefully his legacy isn't tarnished too much by the end of the season.

Not so sure he is better than Ramsdale. Happy to be corrected, but I can't think of an obvious Ramsdale howler when he's played. The Romero overhead dribbling over the line is the worst moment I can think of.

There's one every week with Pope. Has to be dropped.

Yeah. I’m sure if we went back through there are loads that they’ve missed. 2-3 on that list barely deserve being there. Strange to go to that effort and then put in ones that hardly seem like mistakes.

Either way. He has become a walking disaster. Every other game there is a howler. Don’t know if he is just shot to bits mentally, physically he has been slowed by injuries or a bit of both.

This is not the same keeper that we had for the first 18 months or so. He has gone from being one of the best ‘keepers’ in the league. To a complete liability and one of the worst.

This is coming from one of the few members of the Pope fanclub, as well. It’s indefensible now and has ruined his legacy.

Ramsdale hasn’t had high profile ones like Pope. But it literally seemed like a goal a game or more. Where you immediately think ‘should be doing better there.’

He is also a total calamity with how he controls his box. Glued to his line, plays like a cat on a hot tin roof, positioning is terrible.

Not really sure him playing changes much. But I’d be tempted to give it a go. Pope can’t be trusted this season, it seems.

Both not good enough for different reasons.

I'm back at a point where I think Ramsdale might actually be better, but he was really shit during his small cameo the last time I wanted him in, so I'm not going to bang the drum too hard

The best thing about this is that there's absolutely no chance of us putting off buying an actual top replacement for another window now.

This is probably fair. I agree on the stuff about how he controls his box, 100%.

Maybe it doesn't change much, but I feel they need to make the change at this point. Hopefully, neither is in the squad next season.

The Spurs one was worse than anything Pope has done until today imo. Was it Chelsea where they scored offside and it literally rolled past him at about 7mph too?

Both are crap - people couldn't wait for Pope to come back the last time around Ramsdale had a run of games during Pope's injury.

Makes no difference who is in between the sticks from now until end of the season, the soft goals will continue.

Ramsdale being in the squad would be even more egregious, IMO. Massive wages, paid a big loan fee and the option on him is steeeeeeep.

I could see Pope staying on for his last year as second choice. But no way should he be starting.

Got so many positions that need upgrading or more depth. So I think two new keepers could be pushing it.

Yeah exactly the same here, I really wanted Ramsdale in and then when he was in he was pretty meh. I think he's probably still just about the best of two not great choices at the minute though, but I'm not sure there's much in it.

Aye fair point. The list of areas that clearly need addressing is pretty sobering.

If we're not in Europe and sold no one good, I think we could literally just improve the keeper and that would deliver a far better domestic campaign. For all we've often been shite this season, it's usually fine margins so the howlers are always pivotal.

That hypothetical scenario assumes the strikers improve a bit too.

I think it’s a big ask to not get Europe and keep all of our top players

Oh for sure, I was being completely hypothetical to make the point that the keepers have been a bit of a disaster this season. Missing out on Trafford is arguably as impactful on our session as missing out on Pedro/Ekitike.

The issue with Ramsdale is that while he doesn't make obvious blunders, he's just so bad that he gets beaten by efforts that Pope would save.

Ramsdale is the better keeper. His problem is some have made their minds up before he even put his gloves on for the first time.

Some of the gash I've seen on here has been ludicrous

I made my mind up about Ramsdale way before he joined us and it wasn't because I didn't watch enough of him. I've seen nothing to change my mind since he joined, he still isn't a good goalkeeper.
