Daily Mail linking us with Marcos Leonardo, young Brazilian striker from Santos.

This is what I need to be reading upon entering this thread. Not the potential merits of McTominay.

The only people that ever post stuff about McTominay and talk about McTominay are the people that apparently can't stand the idea of signing him.

Make it make sense?

It's definite anti-British sentiment among football fans.  It extends to players and coaches. It's not alone.

It depends which players or coaches though. I'd take Rice or Foden in a heartbeat. Now I might have hated the idea of Gerrard or Lampard coming here as manager, but I was always keen on Howe, and would have been happy with Potter as well.

I don't think it's anti-British sentiment, just no one wants to buy someone's cast offs. McTominay or Gallagher would have been good signings a year ago, now we are competing in the CL our sights might be set a bit higher.

There's nothing anti-British about not wanting to sign McTominay or Gallagher. Most people are happy with the likes of Tierney, Maddison, Rice etc...

Some of us just don't want to be scraping the bottom of barrel for players that aren't very good - Especially from Man Utd where we've been lumbered with pricks like Butt, Smith and Obertan over the years. I'd personally have a "no Man Utd cast offs" policy in place.

Anti-British sentiment ffs

If anything its the british media that overhypes players/managers not the fanbase. Look at Gerrard/Lampard as managers - absolute dross yet the media never pulled them up on it. Same with Bruce. We were practically lunatics for criticising him.

If someone is good at their job, their nationality has nothing to do with it.

It's not just on here. If Howe was foreign he would've gotten a bigger opportunity sooner than he did. He was even the second choice with us. Looking at his thread - he wasn't high up on many people's list here either. People were disappointed we didn't land Emery or others (some like Wullie and Klaus believed from day 1 tbf to them).

Gallagher is not a cast-off.

God, please don't be Eddie Howe, only because I don't want to hear the media hype him up, please be someone foreign like Benitez.

Said Gallagher was the perfect Howe player some time ago, but every time we have come up against him he has faded. At least Mc offers some size and presence. Gallagher runs around but he doesnt do very much.

I don’t think it’s anti British more people preferring the excitement around a foreign signing and how they will do over someone already playing in the Premier League who they think they will have a rough idea of what they are going to get.

Without wanting to get ahead of ourselves, here's a nice video about Szoboszlai.

Speaks good English; worked with Yank Lampard at Leipzig; extremely suited for a high-pressing style of football like the RB teams (and ourselves) play. Wants to win the Champions League :bluestar:

Why the hell not, eh?

Anyone know owt about him?

He's a box-to-box type but has played a more forward role in the last few months for Celta. Just turned 21. He's almost 6 feet tall, so another one with some size. Highly rated. Can take on defenders with a dribble. He's not a great passer yet but has potential to be, plenty of energy though. Feels like he would be a versatile type, I think he could play as a 10, 8, or a 6. Probably start as a 6, I'd guess.

Does sound like the profile we want. Most of the CMs linked seem to be all-rounders.
