Now That's What I Call Transfer Rumours! 7

Couple of rags in Spain claiming that we are very close to signing Gabi Veiga from Celta Vigo.

Has played both 6 & 8 positions in central midfield, is a “classy” player who arrives in the box at the right times and likes to burst into spaces.

They compare him to Bellingham quite a bit…

haven’t seen too much of him tbf.

plays against Barca at the weekend

This summer is going to be a shit show for info.

Hope is absolutely right, as usual, the club's name will be used by agents and selling clubs.

The problem is that the local lads no longer get anything from the club, unless it's nearly done or it's in some way beneficial to us.

You're pretty much relying on well connected journos to the selling club.

So do we think we want this guy instead of Thuram or Kone?

Interesting point on player’s wages. The agent takes their percentage not just on the transfer fee and/or signing on fee, but also of the entire wages throughout the contract. So if an agent is on say 10% commission for Tielemans, the agent will pocket £20k per week through the contract at £200k.

What? Is this true? The agent takes a percentage of wages. That’s absolutely filthy.

Yup, it's why part of me believes the Veiga link. The best info is either going to come from someone connected to the selling club (a la Isak) or potentially one of the big national/international guys (e.g. Ornstein). The latter probably more likely if it's a big deal.

Tielemans won't be coming not when he's wanting a 9m signing on fee.

Genuine question - why? If we had the chance to sign him for £9m it’d be a bargain but on a free with a £9m signing on fee rules us out?

i can see the wages being a problem but don’t see why this should.

"Gabri Veiga to Newcastle links are interesting. He’s been watched by Man City/Arsenal for months.

The timing of City’s move for Kovacic and Arsenal ruling out sale of Smith Rowe could be significant. Perhaps they have both cooled interest, leaving #NUFC with a free run at Veiga."

He used to call a few things right but he just talks shit now. He literally just reports what’s already been said

That’s the way it should be really, i.e. if a player wants to be represented by an agent he (or she) should foot the bill for their services

Pay them a fee for sure and yeah maybe a slice of the transfer fee but a percentage of their wages across the whole contract. That feels way too much and more than a little parasitic.

That’s how agents work in professional contracting for other professions work too, like.

It’s certainly true in the case of certain agents who are currently arguing over the rights to a prem player’s contract. He’s pretty high level and they have a number of players on their books so likely very widespread.

Aye, when a recruiter places me in a contract job they continue to take a bit of my daily rate.

I hope we’ve done our work with the agents! Our knock on the door is different these days because our product is so much better. We don’t pay premium wages like City/Lpool/ManU which will ultimately stop us attracting the very best

I’m sure we have - the pif don’t get to be worth as much as they are without learning how to deal with money grabbing businessmen.
