The wrong sort of player for us is the right sort of player for Chelsea, would be my summary of the situation

If we go in for them and they choose to join that bloated squad because they’ll get paid more money or can live in London, then they’re not the type of player we should be bringing in.

We’ve built our success on squad harmony, not mercenaries

Yeah I have this sort of win win attitude too. Choose us and that's good, Choose Chelsea and that's good because you're a wrongun. It's getting more frustrating now that our pool of potential players seems to be getting smaller.

So they’re going with Pedro, Jackson and Delap next season? They’ll probably spend another 60-70m on another striker before the end of the window 😂

Not one of them are good enough for a team that wants to win the biggest titles imo.

So that's Neto, Tosin, Delap (among other clubs obv), Pedro we've been in for in the last few years and they've all gone to Chelsea. And they hijacked Liverpool's move for Caicedo and Arsenal's move for Mudryk.

Can definitely feel the generational divide when players are choosing fucking Chelsea over those clubs.

Chelsea are an odd club in that respect - their international following absolutely dwarfs their UK support.  I still don’t really view Chelsea as a massive club in English terms, but even anecdotally I work with dozens of blokes from Asia and Africa who support them.  Which is a shame, as most of them are sound lads otherwise

100% People often wonder what the 'no dickhead' policy looks like. Well, if someone is choosing to sit among the scrapheap of medicore mercenaries that Chelsea have horded over the years and not build a meaningful connection with the fans instead of playing a key role in an exciting project where the fans will instantly adore and idolise them then quite frankly they can get themselves to fuck.

Sure, 7 years on 150k a week is attractive, but to me it shows that he doesn't back himself to earn an even better contract in the future. What's to stop complacency setting in for this guy when now that his future is secured?

I'm sure he'd get a 5 year deal on 120k a week with us and after 2/3 years get a new deal and a handsome payrise to go with it or get a move to a true European giant.

You won, Joao. Enjoy the money, I hope it makes you very happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Joao.

Honestly that looks so average to me.

People can mock how Chelsea do things, but they've won everything there is to win in the last 10 years, are offering more money, and have a greater geographical appeal, but any player who backs themselves and goes there over us is to be ridiculed? Seems a little silly to me!

I couldn't care less that he, Delap or whoever else wants to go to Chelsea or any other club over us, we'll just go buy someone else instead who will very likely be a huge success, just like every other major signing has been under the current management.

Meh. I'm a bit disappointed with this one, thought he'd bring us something a bit different.

But not too disappointed, if he chose Chelsea then fine, and I suppose we're at least looking at exciting players who might give us different options.

And well done to Chelsea for hoarding every player they can buy and to the players who choose them for wanting to be treated like transfer cattle.

My thoughts on it exactly.

I think it was more the suggestion that we might start to play with a link man between the midfield and attack.  It is what many think has been lacking in certain games, myself included.

But then again, the money involved seemed steep and I'm not sure £60m on him would have been the best use of our limited funds.  Especially when we have positions in the current starting XI that need addressing more urgently.

Just to echo what everyone else has said.  If you want to join Chelsea, then good luck.  I don't think any club needs that kind of personality in their squad.

For me it's more the fact that they've always been in danger of a PSR punishment but then they do some dodgy shit, get away with it, then spend another couple of hundred million with absolutely no consequences.

The PL seem happy enough to let them work away at it while putting the squeeze on everyone else. The whole thing is a complete farce. Just another window of Chelsea doing whatever they want.

Clearly the system's rigged and it's sucking the life out of the game, but Chelsea are just exploiting that system, the lawmakers are the problem for me, and no player is going to care about that, it's actually working in their favour with these long contracts, and 99.9% of people in that position would do the same thing.

Not sure where you get they are happy.  They have tried to close every loophole they use.

I think most of the mocking is for the approach taken by Boehly and Co, they weren't responsible for everything they've won in the last 10 years

Only time will tell if their approach was genius but from the outside it just seems ridiculous and uncoordinated

If Chelsea sign Gittens too that he got to be times up for Neto, Madueke or a few of their youngsters,

The club should also look at what opportunities this transfer creates - is there someone who is now unsettled to go for

And for all the good sellers tag they have something must be fucked up if they are needing to sell hotels etc to make ends meet for psr. At some point they have to run out of these one off items.

This is why I just posted in another thread that winning trophies and competing in the CL is important from a PIF viewpoint. Chelsea were barely on the international radar before Abramovich's buyout. Winning the PL in such style with Mourinho catapulted them into the spotlight.

Spot on, I don't believe selling hotels/womens team was part of the plan but rather a creative solution

At some point it all has to catch up to them

Just out of curiosity did those overseas fans support them in the days of Ken Bates or when Abramovics billions came in?

I didn’t know them at the time of course, but I doubt that when the sentient bog brush was talking about putting in electrified fences to stop Combat 18 and other delightful supporter groups from invading from half-empty dilapidated terraces I doubt they were on whatever passed for Twitter using a faraway team’s successes as a pitiful penis extension

Getting CL and the club World Cup have probably sorted them for another season

Had they missed out on the CL it could have got interesting, but I think they’ll be fine this year at least

They started to get a lot of international fans back in the Gullit, Vialli, Zola era.

Yeah I think they are fine for the foreseeable due to the creative accounting and the CL/CWC like you say but a couple of years down the line, either they'll have to stop buying or keep finding players like Lewis Hall/Gallagher to sell

He's a good player, not clinical but think Howe would have worked wonders with him

I do think the fee is a touch on the high side but I'm not massively gutted because this has happened so early in the window

We have have plenty of time so no excuses not to see who the alternative is and push to get them in

Howe would have got him to the next Brazil No 9. Hes gone to sit in Chelseas reserves. Fair play if i could sit around for millions a month with no pressure i probably would too
