Might be cutting our nose off to spite our face but if the player shows any interest at all in Chelsea I'd be telling them to fuck off and enjoy whatever the fuck happens to them there.

It’s going to narrow our transfer options by a lot if we’re only willing to sign players who don’t like getting paid more money.

To be honest our bid of £45m + 5m addons (if true), is weak.

Feel we need to stop fannying around with weak bids for top targets. Even if it means ending up signing slightly less personnel than intended in one window.

Targeting only English or current Premier League players leads to inflated prices we can’t compete with. We should be looking abroad, where quality talent is available for far better value. Should have learnt that lesson with the Guehi nonsense last year

I agree on this - offering £25m for Trafford when Burnley has always said around £40m and £25m here are borderline waste of time bids.

As this isn't happening where do we go from here? Window has been an unmitigated disaster thus far.

Based on last summer and how we operate, I imagine we have a very short list of targets. Don’t expect anything quickly though.

Publicly missing out on our top targets over a drawn out period definitely isn’t a good look.

Good God, man. I must have missed the bit where we sold Isak to Sunderland for a tenner.

But we lose leverage if we stick to the same signing. Joao Pedro we tried for in the past ditto Elanga ditto Trafford. All three clubs know we want them bad. Why would you let them go for cheap when you know the richest club in the world (allegedly) wants them? We haven’t shown much in the way of going for alternatives when we are priced out in any way.

The PSR deadline is the 30th, it’s not even July yet. If we haven’t signed anyone by mid July that’s definitely a major concern. An unmitigated disaster would be signing nobody at all this summer. It isn’t one yet.

I'm not stuck in a Mike Ashley-esque time warp where "holding on" to players is like a new signing.

I do agree with the points that we open ourselves up to drawn out transfer sagas and paying inflated fees with the type of targets we seem to be aiming at. That said I think we’ll see movement next week and you’d hope the club will quickly move into other targets if the selling club won’t budge on price and we won’t go any higher.

Thus far is kind of important in the sentence.

If someone wants to share the successes of this window so far I'm all ears though.

It’s clear we want game ready players and that means going after players that teams don’t want to sell (or at least want full value for) and that will always end in a saga of sorts for the most part.

We aren’t Liverpool, Chelsea etc where we can overpay and bully with our PSR headroom and the margins for a signing not working precludes us from too many unknowns at cheap price like Brighton or similar to after.

It's got nothing to do with Ashley. Losing our best players would be a disaster.

What's happening in reality is that we've not made a signing yet, like everyone else in the league not pinned down by PSR.

And that's if you believe Trafford isn't definitely happening.
