Personally not a fan of kicking issues down the road by overspending now, but if thats what the club decides to do then so be it. They'll live and die by the sword.

Appreciate all your explanations TCD and NUFC123.

200m is about £50m in amortised cost.  Doesn’t sound unreasonable.

I’d say it’s very reasonable

Same here but you can't really argue it's not worked for us. Look at what we spent on Burn, Targett, Trippier and Chris Wood in that first season. All overspending really, but in the long term it definitely paid off, even if it didn't reflect in the balance sheets.

I'm too much of a tight arse IRL. Won't buy anything on credit. I love sleeping soundly.

If we don’t give it a good go we’ll miss out on CL guaranteed. We might miss out anyway tbf. But ultimately if we are to cement ourselves we need back to back CL campaigns. With such hot competition  we’ll not achieve it without big investment.

Someone’s recently got up to speed with the PSR accounting side of things 😂

Probably know if we do miss out, we've got an Isak sale in the top pocket that'd cover us going again. I think we're in a great position to go again this summer.

I’ve understood the principles of PSR for a long time. Banter aside I understand the business of football and the game itself better than most.

It's essential we are qualifying for back to back CL campaigns to be taken seriously as a big club. Other teams have qualified after a fantastic season, but they quickly get forgotten about if they don't follow that up. It has to be worth spending big this time to ensure it, even if we do end up spending tomorrow's money today. Especially with Man City looking likely to take the PL to the cleaners for their restrictive practices.

We are not getting top 4/5 next season with the current midfield options.

Think JP goes some way to address that. Would stilll get in 1 body though.  But if we plan to play 2 in midfield frequently it’s less of an issue.

You would expect JP to start 80% of games meaning 1 of the midfield 3 or Isak gets a rest.

Fair.

McGrath isn't terrible or out, just a bit hit and miss. Wondered if anyone had backed it.

Was reported last week as well
