M1tche
Offer him the shirt, if he takes it, I respect it. If he doesn't, I respect it. As the main man, this is type of thing he should get to choose.

SteV
RyDog says we’re ready to make him the highest paid player in our history. Which probably just equates to more than Bruno, but that doesn’t sound as good.
STM
I feel like Isak has some sort of responsibility to take the number 9 shirt, out of respect for it. I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything to him but it means something to the club. FWIW, I think he'd look lush in the number 9. Also Elanga suits the 14. Even if you don't put any weight into that sort of thing yourself, surely at this point you'd understand why some do... I don't agree with STM though; I don't think Isak has any responsibility where it's concerned. It would just be cool if he subscribed to the romance and saw it as an 'upgrade' or (to some extent) an honour, in the way Carroll or even Wilson did. I doubt he's arsed personally but that's okay. Your the serious one who said he has some sort of responsibility to take a shirt number Not taking your stories and history away from you, your welcome to those, just thought the concept of someone having responsibility to a number which they don't choose themselves a bit mad. This basically. I'd just like someone to have a word in his ear and get him to take it. Perhaps when he was quoted previously, he didn't want to shit on Wilson. It's an iconic shirt, fit for an iconic player.

I should have been more concise with my wording. Why are people so invested into a player's number to the point they view it as some form of responsibility for a player to take said number. You can do as many laughing emojis as you want. You arsle the one who doesn't seem to understand the history of our club. Perhaps responsibility is the wrong word but dont down play its importance. Toon No9
Isak wears no.9 for Sweden. If he really wanted the no.14 he would have took it for Sweden too. I think his coments about being happy with no.14 for Newcastle is of respect for Wilson who had the shirt at the time. If it's offered to him I think he'll take it with open arms. He knows it's an iconic shirt and thrives at such things. It wont be heavy on his shoulders.

AyeDubbleYoo
Makes sense for him to take it with Wilson leaving, I expect he will. Not bothered personally but that’s what I think is most likely. Edited July 9, 2025 by AyeDubbleYoo
The Butcher
Doubt he'll take it if his plan is to leave next summer. If he's planning on staying I think he'll take it.
Kid Icarus
Pretty obvious what STM meant like. The number 9 at Newcastle doesn't need to be explained. For our main striker, one of the best strikers we've ever had to be non-plussed about taking it is fine, but I don't think we should pretend that it doesn't also undermine it in those circumstances and that that doesn't add a degree of pressure on him to take it. PauloGeordio
It would be great to see Isak take the 9 shirt with all its history and prestige at the club. Maybe he’s a fan of: So understandably he may be hesitant. Just looking at Cal’s injury record he may think it’s somewhat cursed

TRon
We definitely need another proven striker to come in to add some much needed competition for Isak. Doesn't have to be a big name necessarily, just someone who can do the job no questions asked. I know it's not going to happen because of the age thing, but Wissa would have been perfect.
