Signed one first team player since. We're hardly down on players like Minteh who never played for the club or Fraser who was in reality punted three years ago and has clearly been replaced. Kelly was actually a first team signing himself in your timeline here (I'd count three first team signings in Kelly, Osula and Elanga). We can bemoan the issues in recruitment without being silly to make an exaggerated point. We've had a bloated squad for a while and most of the above have been welcome trimming, with some solid fees received. We'd be in a great position if we could deliver 3-4 more quality players this summer. We have the money and headroom to do so. If it doesn't happen then serious questions do need to be asked about our operation. Edited July 21, 2025 by ponsaelius

We've had a bloated squad pretty much since the takeover full of shite that we didn't really have any use for but couldn't move on. We still do let's be honest - pretty sure we still have more than 25 players on the books. Most of those players you have listed we are well shot of. If we hadn't have sold them we'd have even less chance of making solid moves this summer. Edited July 21, 2025 by ponsaelius

If we are trying tie him down to a new contract, that's probably an understandable sum to want. Other clubs would jump at the chance to offer him that. dcmk
We have got to quickly get up to the level where we can offer those kinds of sums. If we want the very top players. Obviously easier said than done. But until then we are in some respects still a stepping stone club.

J7
I think that’s a fair wage for him. Other players can’t expect that wage unless they’re in the top 5 in the position in the world too.

Sibierski
£200k base where performance related takes it north of £250k is fair for me. Ties him down for best years, and if he’s scoring 25+ he deserves every penny of a £250k+ wage. If we’re not changing in those goals for success / trophies, that’s then on everything else and nothing to do with Isak.

Haaland paid twice that over the counter and probably again under it with image rights etc. Edited July 22, 2025 by gallowghoul
Keegans Export
£300k/week is probably a reasonable starting point for him/his agent to start with. As @TheBrownBottle has previously worked out, we can probably add an extra £100k/week without making any impact on our PSR position so that would take him to somewhere around the £220k/week range and that would be a fair place for us to start imo. Obviously he holds most of the cards but we're not completely helpless. He still has three years on his current salary and seemingly no release clause, so "I could earn £300k/week somewhere else" only holds true if someone gives us what we want. Hopefully something around the £250k/week range would be doable.
Ikon
Absolutely zero chance that he signs a new contract unless we have a very strong window. Or he gets a massive rise and a contract with a too low clause which I doubt that we want to offer. Can’t blame him either tbh. AyeDubbleYoo
He doesn't really have any negotiating power with 3 years left, it would be more like a decision from the club to reward him for being so good. But they can only reward him as much as they can afford. If he signed a new deal he could easily still be unsettled and/or sold. Zero
As the best striker in the world (at this moment), 300k is fair. Whether we can afford is another question

AyeDubbleYoo
I feel really old when contracts are discussed like, I just think he agreed to his current salary and still has loads of time on his deal. Like I say, if the club wants or can reward him with more money than that's great. But I still can't see it entirely from the player's point of view. I know, I know.
