Do any of you remember the John Hartson thing with Coventry years ago? I think this forum was responsible for making him odds on. It doesn't take much betting to move the market.

I don't remember that one. Do remember Freddy Shepherd dismissing our campaign to try and get the club to get Ottmar Hitzfeld as a betting scam though

He's training with another team Dokko.

I saw one source said that he has been given permission to do so by the club, but he has to report to team training when the teams back from Asia

I can't quite remember it fully, but I think Coventry were looking for a manager and someone posted or shared a post that Hartson was seen in Coventry.

He was like 20/1 to be their next manager and everyone rushed to bet on him and soon he was odds on. Think it was just a random bald guy in the end.

Not sure how it would create any more of a circus mind. People can tweet about him and photograph him in Spain just the same. In fact it makes more of a story, as we’ve just seen. Why is an empty training ground in Spain any different to one in Newcastle?

Sounds alright after that clarification from Downie though. If true.

The likes of that knob Adam P, Downie, other reporters at the training ground entrance all day reporting every hour trying to catch a glimpse of him, filming his car to and from training...no thanks.

Smart money is on him staying. No realistic options. No bid. Liverpool spent a fortune already. No transfer request. We don't need the money.

Atm all we have is media outlets trying to piggy back something for their own gains. No direct quotes from the player or agent as far as I'm aware. Just noise from camp type stuff.

It shouldn't need repeating, but the only way he moves to Liverpool is if they offer a big enough transfer fee, and we sign a replacement. Liverpool shot themselves in the foot by jumping in to sign Ekitike so that was them who closed the door on Isak. They tried to be smart and play the power moves, well that has backfired.

Someone explain to me like I'm a child; how can clubs agree a contract with a player before they've made a bid, and that not be illegal tapping up? I'm pretty certain it always used to be.

Yeah I don’t get what the process is now either. I guess we’ve given permission for Liverpool to talk to Isak’s people?

Does contacting the agent = tapping up the player?

or how about the agent contact the club instead?

Via agents and intermediaries rather than directly. It happens with every player tbh, the whole Ashley Cole tapping up thing was presented as something really unusual I think partly because it was Mourinho literally talking to Cole directly about a move, partly to create a story.

No he's not.

The Athletic reported he's at Real Sociedad, training "individually." No need to try and dress this up. He's a Newcastle United player currently at another team trying to keep his fitness in check. It's a bad look.

Imagine that's Bruno Fernandes, what would you all have to say? You'd be pissing your pants laughing at it.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but amongst the chaos, the rumour I'm most inclined to believe is that the owners have told him he's staying this season no matter what. Presumably they'll be expecting him to rejoin the squad when they return from the Far East.

Time will tell whether that's the right move. Most clubs will bite the bullet and accept the reality of player power. The Saudis are new to this game and won't like being pushed around.

My worry is that Isak won't be giving it 100% because he won't want a serious injury to ruin his chance of a big money move at the end of the season. Having said that, it's arguable that holding back actually increases the risk of injury.

If it all falls out this way, a big onus will be on the capacity of Eddie and the squad to re-motivate the player.

It's a gamble that deserves to succeed, so if only for that reason, I'm in favour.

If he stays and holds back and doesn't give it 100% so has a shit season, he probably won't get a big money move at the end of next season either

Or if he stays and doesn't play because he's in a huff and acting like a spoilt little bitch then he probably won't get a big money move at the end of next season either

If he's staying, it's in his own interest to pull his finger out of his arse, re-integrate with the squad, deflate his massively inflated ego and do the bizniz for NUFC on the pitch so his stock remains high

Agents have been involved in football for years though, surely it's always happened. I'm just certain there used to be some form of rules preventing it

I thought it was maybe all being done on the sly but Liverpool could have plausible deniablility by saying it's just press speculation. But Graham Bailey did reckon that Howe has very good relations with Hughes from Liverpool and they will have discussed it, so who knows? It's possible.
