100 percent. Fuck Isak, send a message to the squad, we're not a stepping stone.

Given our current status, we can be a stepping stone for some players, I don't think that's the issue

But anyone playing for us now or in the future needs to be shown that you can't be a snide cunt colluding with a new club whilst contracted to us, then try to force a move there by acting like a massive cunt and refusing to honour your contract

We'd also be losing any value from higher league finish this season and any potential progression in the champions league.

Was reported Villa got upwards of £80m from having a good CL campaign last year.

If we write off this season for the sake of £150m that profit will get eaten into by our underachievement this year in the league plus the added tax clubs will add to any players we want to sign in future.

Plus we have a shit season and don't finish in European place then you have all our next tier of best players agitating for moves next summer...Tonali, Bruno, Gordon. And we won't be able to attract equal quality just like we can't this summer with Isak.

This decision is going to set us back way further than people realise.

The other players and staff will also learn that kicking up a fuss to get what you want works.

I'm sure Liverpool, Man United, Spurs, Arsenal players were all pissed off with the endless list of players who tried this with them only for the club to say no.

This is beyond Isak and the repercussions on the squad now, this is about who we are and want to be.

One thousand percent this. There cannot be a blueprint on how to engineer a move away.

Sustainable success is to a large extent results dependent. It doesn’t preclude the occasional investing for now signing. The occasional investing for now signing, say when you have Champions League and a solid foundation to achieve a third top six finish, is sensible to ensure the right results.

That’s a good argument! Because it’s predicated on sustained success (i.e. CL qualification every season), it’s risky though…if we were competing with only 3-4 other clubs for CL qualification, it’d be easier to take a flyer on someone like Watkins, who would give us enough to qualify each season but not bring much re-sale value.

But we’re realistically competing against what, 8-9 other clubs for 4-5 CL slots? What might’ve been a CL-caliber season a decade ago won’t necessarily cut it now.

What do you think is going to happen when we're looking for an adequate replacement and the whole world knows we have an extra £150m in our pocket?

I'm not saying we accept it today and move on... I'm saying we can't let the whole thing drag on into late in the window.

Barca and Madrid are logically the only clubs that are not stepping stones. But the snide way the player downs tools and the "bigger" club can use their hooks in the media to negotiate the move pre-bid has to be nipped in the bud. We're like all but two teams are a stepping stone, sure. But we can show we're not fucking mugs at least.

I mean, I hope the lad is right and that the "nature of the rebuttal" becomes a matter of public record so we can take a bit of pride in our standing firm  but I can't imagine a single lowball offer being knocked back is going to put them off too much.  They knew they were tens of millions out

We would need a definition of sustainable success before discussing, it means different things depending on who you ask.

As long as this club continues to be owned by PIF, the wealthiest ownership in world football, virtually everyone here expects this club to become a perennial PL- and CL-title contender.

They have no intention of paying the going rate, this little scam was cooked us to try and force our hand.

Hopefully whoever answers the call has a red button that says get fucked and they just press it when those dickheads call.

Let's hope this little gimp is correct in what he's saying. Bounce it back to them and let isak stew in his own mess. Training alone and completely ostracised from the squad and the club.

Then ask for £10m more in January
