Dealing with an elite sportsman who is potentially on the verge of one of the biggest transfers in football History…. Yes I would be say it absolutely is.

Ok mate. We’ll see which approach the club take should he be made to stay. I can see an improved contract with a release clause eventually being offered after the dust has settled and some sense of normality returns, but it would be something like with a year’s extension and a 200m release clause or something, i.e. it would require some form of commitment from Isak too, and some benefit from the club’s perspective. It certainly shouldn’t be our going-in position this summer to appease him by weakening our hand. Again, Eddie Howe’s comments about earning the right to train with and be part of the first team point directly towards Isak having to eat crow initially and accepting the errors of his ways if he wants to redeem himself, which he will have to unless someone offers us the money we want, and not a penny less.

you’ve made some brilliant points in the last couple of days, but a £200m release clause is never happening in a million years

well put! I'd doubt that he'd agree to a 200 million release clause.

Fine, he doesn’t have to sign it if he’s not willing to commit his future in order to earn what he believes he’s worth. I’d suggest that a 200m release clause for one of the best forwards in world football isn’t that far fetched though. In fact it’s what PSG did with Neymar 8 years ago already, with most clauses in Spanish football already eclipsing that nowadays.

I mean unless Liverpool stump up the cash he's not going anywhere regardless, like.

The improved contract with clause has seemingly already been offered to him earlier in the window to avoid this whole saga? He wasn't interested and has behaved like he has so I'm not sure why we would be rewarding him with it now because he hasn't gotten his own way.

If your think he's not going to bother trying for us I'm not sure why you'd be convinced he suddenly would if he's getting an extra 50k a week and knows he's off next year anyway.

He’s the most sought after striker on the planet and is likely being offered to double his wage. We don’t NEED his permission, but it makes absolute sense to try and bargain with him if we want him to stay another year while we sort a replacement. We’d need his head in the right place, if that’s an extra £50k and a release clause then so be it.

Is he?

There's only been one bid put in for him and it was a serious lowball.

Howay man [emoji38] he’s regarded as one of the top centre forwards in Europe. The way the chips have fallen have stopped others getting involved this Summer but you’ve got one of the biggest clubs in Europe undoubted coming back in for him at some point. If he stays until next Summer you’d imagine there’ll be a few others involved.

Isak:   "Hi Yasir.  My current contract pays me £150,000/week, lasts through 2028 and has no release clause. I'd like a new deal that pays me double that and has a release clause so that the expiration date is irrelevant."

Al-Rumayyan:  "Hmmm. Having a hard time seeing why that's a good deal for the club. Why d'you think I would agree to that?"

Isak:  "Because if you don't, I'll pretend to be injured for half the season, put in a half-arsed effort on the field and moan incessantly to my teammates that they're being played for suckers and would be better off elsewhere."

Al-Rumayyan: "OK, so what happens if I agree?"

Isak: "I'll take the extra money, put in a minimally-acceptable effort taking care not to get injured, and then bugger off to join my friends at Liverpool as soon as the season ends."

Al-Rumayyan: "Fuck that shit. Get back to work."

I don't doubt he's regarded as one of the best centre forwards in Europe.

But that hasn't for various reasons as you say translated to one of the most sought after. There's only one club showing any real interest and the one bid they submitted was derisory.

Shadow Puppets' source saying that the club are going to have one final push to convince Isak, a player with 3 years left on his contract, to stay.

So I’m not sure whether to post this, but I’ve just had a message saying that one final push to keep him will be pitched to him in the next 24 hours. If that doesn’t go well, expect a deal agreed with Leipzig for Sesko to follow imminently.

Have a hard time believing Isak is going to change his mind now, so this seems weird.

He wanted to go when he was adored by the fans here, why would he change his mind after he stained his reputation here?

FWIW I think one of the main things potentially driving our complete and utter dicklessness in all of this is that Romano tweet/briefed threat about potential young signings not wanting to come here if they see us holding on to a player. I can't think of any other explanation other than them all just being utter gimps.
