There was no way he'd agree to stay at this stage.

Even if he wanted to deep down he'll be too embarrassed to admit it and he knows a good number of fans will still resent him.

Just being in Newcastle still will be making him feel incredibly uncomfortable and so he'll be wanting to run away asap.

In a non-PSR world I’d see the owners letting him rot on his current contract whilst taking the PFA to court, sadly we live in a PSR world where letting him rot for 3 years materially hurts us

Nah fuck it. We've more than had our £60m out of him.

Letting our players and the world know you can't act like this is worth way more than whatever we'd get for him.

Wonder if this has potential ramifications for other players down the line. Can imagine lots of owners are looking at this situation and thinking “I don’t want this to happen to us.” What’s the potential that this could usher in tighter regulations on what players can get away with? Would be quite something if Isak ends up making things shitter for other players in the future

It definitely should like. What's the point in contracts if players can just kick off in the middle of them and go on strike. If a club wants to sell a player in the middle of a contract they can just stay and sit it out on full pay. Nothing the club can do. In this situation a club should have much more power to fine and even claim some form of losses.

Maybe so, but if the move can't be done then he'll have to grow up and start working his way back.

In a non-PSR world we could pay Isak what he wants and match is title/Champions League aspirations with the squad around him.

Can’t remember who it was, might have been someone on Talksport, but they said the PFA have been waaaaay too quiet during this whole thing. They’d be quick to take the player’s side if it was a football club in the wrong, but when it’s a player misbehaving, they won’t say a fucking word.

Players come and go all the time, part of life. I vividly recall losing Waddle, then Beardsley and then Gazza all within 3 years or so. It stung a lot as a young kid but you kind of understood they were leaving a club that didn't aspire to anything, for clubs that did.

This guy...fuck me. He was basically a club legend until this. It absolutely beggars belief he's doing this, it's not like we're a club just making up the numbers, we're actually trying our level best to compete. Is all this rancor and making himself look the biggest cunt going really worth it for some extra money and a trophy or 2? All he had to do was conduct himself properly and wait a year and he'd have got his move. What a kick in the nuts, guy is a fucking disgrace and should be castigated and ostracized until his career is over.  Doing all this with one of the tightest dressing rooms and most incredible coaches in the league, who made him the player he is, lost for words.

Great post. I simply can't fathom why he's treating us this way. This isn't the barren husk of a club managed by Bruce and owned by Mike Ashley anymore, this is an amazing place to play football. You'll be coached by one of the most dedicated and talented managers of his generation, play alongside great players who will die for you out on the pitch and have great camaraderie with each other off the pitch and you'll be adored by the fans who would give anything to be in your position.

I have absolutely no problem with Isak wanting more money, frankly, he deserved based on how crucial he was to the team but why the hell is he treating us like we're some basket case mid table plodders in a backwater league somewhere and not a Champions League team on the rise, playing in the most prestigious domestic league in the world.

His actions have been absolutely baffling. To any Liverpool fans lurking on here, make no mistake, he'd do the exact same to you if Real came knocking.

Above all, he behaviour cannot be justified by him getting his way this window.

This can't become the blueprint for getting a move. Do not give in and dont let him have his way, else that's what others may well be convinced to do and we're not going to maximise sales.

Even if he goes in January, fine, but not this window.

The Saudi option is waiting for him.

Hopefully any Liverpool bid gets rejected and he panics and agrees to go to Saudi for a year and they pay us £200 million.

It was Simon Jordan and he's spot on.

It's stretching the stupidity really far though isn't it?

Hard not to catastrophise over this whole thing when we're the most emotionally damaged fanbase out there and it feels like (last Tuesday aside) we've done everything we can to facilitate a move that should have been blocked outright in the first place.

A) What happened last Tuesday?

B) How can you block a sale other than the way we did? Which was to tell Liverpool to fuck right off when they did bid. (They themselves commented on the strength of the 'no')?

A) The club statement

B) We put our resources into trying to find a replacement for months on end, until (hopefully) Sesko ended that route. These reports of us keep trying to convince a player with an existing contract to stay/sign a new one is bizarre to me when there could be a hardline, it's this or you can leave in 2028.

I've always thought that I fell out of love with the club since the takeover and didn't really care about it enough to get annoyed anymore but if we cave to them cunts now and sell him for any price I'll be furious.

He's basically took a wrecking ball to our season.  The idiot doesn't realise is Liverpool only want him if they can get him on the cheap- but maybe he doesn't care and all is bothered about is the 300k pay cheque

Because, and this may be relevant, they're winning fuck all if they play like that last night.  They don't need forwards, they need defenders.

Be joyous if he wins nothing else in his career

The PFA’s job is to represent players, it’s not going to come out and have a dig at a member.
