brummie
We are finally starting to find some league form. Mings has been imperious of late, that's a big big plus for us after a season of chaotic defence. Torres almost back from injury as well and Kamara seems to be approaching his best after his ACL. Hopefully some starts aligning shit going down.

It's too tactical. Sure you get the odd decent game, Spurs/Bournemouth was alright, as it finished 2 2 it makes it seem better, but it's not like there was a flurry of chances, just the odd good bits of play. The more the players have become highly tuned athletes it's made the games worse too, the better they are technically it just cancels stuff out. Seems to be less and less room for the maverick these days. Flair and personality is discouraged, you have to stick rigidly to the system. Sad to think someone like Hatem Ben Arfa wouldn't make it in today's game. Hell, even some of our own fans were getting on his back for not "tracking back" or "putting a shift in". Salah doesn't track back at all, stays high to wait for a counter. It's just how you set your team up.

Of course he would have the ability to make it today, but to do so he would need to have his flair and spontaneity drilled out of him. The best example of this in recent years is probably Jack Grealish at City. He was more productive at City, and the numbers may back that up, but he was a million times more interesting to watch when he was at Villa. I guess this is what we are discussing, is football as entertaining now as it was 20/30 years ago? I don't think it is, I blame the likes of Guardiola, Mourinho, and to a lesser extent, Rafael Benitez. Those chaps made it all about themselves and put themselves at the forefront, whereas when I was growing up it was the players.

Losing the ball is a criminal offence today. Hatem as a no 10 behind the striker would still work for many teams. Of course you have to do something without the ball, if you are not Messi. I just happened to watch Arsenal-ManU "premier league classic" game from maybe 2004 or 2005. What a team both had, but dear lord the amount of long punts to nowhere, defenders just heading the ball away, straight back to opposition etc. It seemed like pure chaos compared today. Then occasionally someone like Henry goes past 2-3 players and creates a chance out of nowhere. I mean the number of easy passes to teammate must have been fraction what it is today. Didn't remember it being like that when I watched it live
Froggy
We really should have beat Arsenal yesterday. They were so poor. A win would have been a great confidence booster going into Thursday. Big fan of Rice shushing our fans as he made it 1-1 against a team 21 points behind them.

We're closer to third than to Leicester son. You'll be looking over your shoulder in a few weeks. An Isak injury away from being relegation fodder yourselves.
