Elliottman
City win tonight and we beat Ipswich I think that's Villa just about out of it. We'll essentially be 6 clear of them (inc GD) with 12 to play for, I just dont see them making it up. Then it'll come down to us and Chelsea, the game at SJP being the decider. Sort of, but they did have a couple of incredible goal-line clearances and the keeper played a blinder.

AyeDubbleYoo
I haven’t been watching spurs much but the squad doesn’t seem ‘that’ far off on paper, if a better approach could be applied and a few weaknesses shored up. Guess you could say that about most average sides, but it’s true. Sometimes when I see the lineup on paper I literally can’t imagine how it functions on the pitch. But I’m no manager obviously. Optimistic Nut
@midds do you have a snip of Spurs results per opponent in the league? I've seen teams with poor goal differences finish high up but I've never seen a team with +10 gd in the bottom 5 before I don't think.

midds
They've been dogshit for about 16 months now as last season's points tally was gained mostly in the first 13 games of their season then they hit a wall. The squad is what you’d expect for a team in transition - couple of experienced but aging players (probably not enough tbf), some younger players trying to cohere, some very young players looking to develop. The problem is that the way they’re being asked to play is just not sustainable in the Premier League. It might - might - be justifiable as part of a process of instilling a different mentality in players but as an effective strategy long-term it‘s clearly not going to work. It‘s criminally easy to exploit and the margins for success are so tight that the slightest spanner in the works makes it all come crashing down. The injuries may or may not be a direct consequence, but they have rendered the whole exercise nearly meaningless. I can barely watch us right now, as someone who played for decades in defence. There’s so much quality in the side, but they’re being asked to do stupid things.

You obviously watch far more of Spurs than we do so I'm not going to argue It just feels like it's the manner of the defeats as much as the number of them, Postecoglu seems ridiculously coupled to this 'it's just who we are mate' cliche that he, and the club, have become over the last season and a half. Refusing to change it and losing games hand over fist in the process has made him into a bit of a joke figure, very one dimensional and it's been sussed by a lot of the better teams in the league. Now and again the approach works and it looks amazing but it looks naïve (at best) more often than not (from what I've seen). I also think he's a bit too emotional and moody - to the point of being downright obnoxious in some interviews. Ultimately he's responsible for results and performances and they've been very poor for a sustained time now. Not even sure winning the EL saves him when his bread and butter is so manky

Your question was how he’s still in a job though, and I think the reasons I gave are why. There’s still a chance we win the Europa - just look at how well we played in both legs against Frankfurt - and I don’t think ditching Ange at this point would help that. I'm just surprised at a) the patience Levy has shown in him and b) how little frustration/anger there seems to be with the fans who've watched this for months. Mentioned it last night, there barely seemed more than a murmur of discontent during the game, even at 0-2 down early doors. I could easily be just expecting them to do what loads of other clubs do and bin the manager sharpish. A chairman, especially Levy, not acting quickly seems like a bit of a shock these days? Don’t forget we were also in the semis of the League Cup. Can i point out last season, with our injury list, which i would argue was worse as we didn't have the squad to fall back like you have. We got to the quarter final of the League Cup, were in the Champions League and still managed to finish 7th in the Premier League. For you to be 16th, and to have lost 18 league games so far is completely unacceptable, and even with the injuries and extra games it's still not enough to justify the complete collapse of league form. And, i might add, i didn't hear Howe complain about our injuries, yet Ange kept saying yours were a direct reason for losing, and once those players returned you would win, and yet....
