gbandit
It’s a top class pass that very few players would try in a match because of the low percentages of pulling it off and the risk attached to getting it wrong in your own half. However, Kane is probably just about the best long distance passer in football so it’s fairly common for him. I agree that Tonali and Vitinha and several others could pull it off regularly but I don’t think anyone’s as good as Kane at them
Pokerprince2004
So we still all rate Shearer above Kane? Always thought Shearer was better but the numbers Harry keep churning out is making me consider it for the first time
gbandit
Personally think that Kane is better by a decent amount because of his range of passing

Always thought Shearer was better but the numbers Harry keep churning out is making me consider it for the first time Ditto. Think Kane has crept ahead now, even though I was the biggest Shearer fan. Had Shearer not gotten the injuries esp in 1997 it would be no contest. Pre 97 Shearer was far and away the best. I’d even put him above Rooney tbh for sheer destructiveness. He could have gone to Europe after Euro 96 and smashed it like Kane. Was top 5 in Europe in a golden age of strikers in the mid 90s. R9, Batistuta, Shearer, Vieri/Del Piero, Weah (off the top of my head Post 97 that injury took at least 35% off him. Credit to him he still competed but went from being a Haaland to being a better version of Wood. Kane was a late bloomer but has had no injuries so has developed a higher trajectory. Much of Kane’s best work has come after 30, where he’s gotten even more prolific like CR7 at a time where strikers usually slow down.
Dr.Spaceman
Kane wouldn't have scored as many in Shearer's era and Shearer wouldn't have scored as many in Kane's era. I think it's difficult to judge Kane these days given he is playing in a side that's expected to run away with the league, something Shearer never did. Nobody gave a shit about Shearer's range of passing back in the day when he was scoring 25 plus each season. However, two exceptional crosses spring to mind, the one for Rob Lee in the cup semi final at Wembley and the one against Man Utd in the 5-0. Never seen Harry Kane do that! Tsunami
Shearer had great vision, he never wandered deep enough the really show this. His crossing was usually different level. He’s said it himself, he put in crosses he’d want to be on the end of thinking of what his movement would in the box. It can equally apply to some of Kane’s passing from deep, he can see what runs should be being made.
STM
Time has been a killer for Shearers reputation it seems. Alan Shearer is the best striker this league has seen.... until Haaland. He was also a better all round footballer than Haaland. He could hold up the ball like him (without the physical advantages), he could cross a ball like the best wingers around. If you rewind back far enough, Shearer was a pacey striker who could run off the shoulder, score free kicks, chip the keeper, score from outside the box, Shearer had everything. He lost his pace after 2000 but he still continued to score goals and play for the team. Kane is an outstanding striker, but the only area hes better than Shearer is his long range passing. Hes also decided to go and play in a much inferior league. Hes also had all the advantages of modern coaching and medicine. I will say on Kanes behalf... I think Kane would have scored even more than Shearer in Shearers era, but that's because the defenders in those days, while tough, wouldn't have been able to cope with Kanes physicality, outside of someone like Tony Adams. Two great strikers, Shearer is better. But its two different eras and im not going to lose sleep if someone thinks Kane is better, hes an outstanding striker in his own right. Because you didn’t watch him regularly. It’s just not possibly to reliably compare players in different eras, even though Shearer’s wasn’t that long ago. Comments like Kane was a “late bloomer” or “has had no injuries” are over-egging the pudding - he was the top scorer in the Premier League at 22 - before Shearer managed that - and has chronic ankle problems. Just…Shearer had knee injuries for his entire career. Including his first season for Blackburn - where he would have been the top scorer otherwise. It’s more complicated, and the fact that pudding always seems to be over-egged betrays that. I think they’re both amazing and surely the two best centre-forwards England have ever produced, certainly in the modern era. It just feels like Spurs fans have been saying the same stuff forever. Bayern Munich fans saying they didn’t know about the passing, the defending etc. We knew. The one-season wonder stuff, the “should move to a bigger club” stuff, the “only scores penalties” stuff. We knew. I remember I think I posted on here about a goal he scored early on against West Ham (IIRC). It came to him at the edge of the area and he contorted his body in a very specific and unusual way so that he could kick the ball at a very specific trajectory and swerve that was perfect. I’ve not seen many people that would and could do what he did in a game at Spurs - Hoddle, Berbatov, maybe one or two others. Never seen Shearer do rhat…but I presume he did. Maybe. I don’t know, I didn’t watch him every week. I saw Hoddle, Waddle, Gazza, Ardiles, Son etc etc. He is comfortably the best footballer - not centre-forward, footballer - we have had. Except maybe Modric

leffe186
Another important game for Man U. They’ve got a pretty strong team for them and Sunderland at home next week before the international break. Any sort of result today and a win against Sunderland and they’ll feel they’ve turned a corner. If they lose today, then there’s a ton of pressure on them against Sunderland at home and I can see them slipping up. Then they’ve got a few awkward away games after the break. Any half decent striker should score an absolute hatful for them in that league. Taking nothing away from Kane, I think he's a world class striker, but he's chosen to play his football on easy mode when he signed for Bayern. Don't blame him for doing that, though.
