Slightly dated stats but:

EPL distribution is the most equitable with the top club earning only 1.6 times the bottom club.

One of the main drivers for increased competitive balance and maintaining the attractiveness of the overall league product is ensuring that outcomes and results are as uncertain as possible. That is part of the reason why La Liga, with its two historically dominant clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona, decided to change their revenue distribution structures (by agreeing to move to a collective broadcasting agreement) to make the league more attractive and (in time) increase the competitive balance across the league.

Nonetheless, at present, La Liga has the highest top to bottom club revenue ratio at 3.6. Serie A is 2.3 and Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga are 3.3.

Fair

Potentially 3 trophies in 2 season for Palace. Who would have predicted that. I thought we'd be the exception in breaking the trophy barrier dominated by the superleague clubs, but it's looking fairly routine right now. Europa League would have been brilliant for us next season.

Im just glad to be part of it. The more clubs that win trophies, the better.

If we keeping putting ourselves in a position where we're qualifying for quarterfinals and semifinals, it hopefully won't be too long before the next one too.

I think we achieved more in the CL this season than Villa have in the Europa with our performances against top class sides.

This post just made me really sad. :(

Both comps are the English clubs cups to lose. They're going to have to change the rules or formats to change that.

Or other countries need to look at a more equitable way to share their TV money. That said, Italy for one have improved their distribution, it’s just a smaller pie.

UEFA have chased money and given in to the bigger clubs by giving more spots to the top leagues. That’s the big change they need to make. Maybe - here’s a thought - have only Champions in the Champions’ League?

Pretty crazy:

Most Europa League/UEFA Cup titles, all time

5 - Unai Emery

4 - Sevilla (excluding Emery)

3 - Liverpool, Tottenham, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid

With Man City having been so dominant in the league over the years wouldn't a situation like that just put ONE club at an unfair advantage rather than a handful in terms of money made from being in CL? Same for other leagues with a dominant team.

Apart from the moral righteousness of just having the Champions in there, the Europa immediately becomes incredibly tough and I would expect it to generate more money for the clubs involved. Like, Barca or Real (whichever one it is) are not going to accept significantly lower prize money and TV money in their European campaigns and I think you would expect UEFA and the TV companies to change things to reflect that.

Of course there’s less than zero chance of that happening now.

Shed a tear like a sad old cunt tonight.

Fucking hell, at last, at fucking last. What an insane last 6 or 7 years. Just fucking nuts.

I don't care what any cunt says, we've won another European trophy. I can barely believe it.

TV companies are not gonna pay much for an Arsenal v Brondby semi final

There’s no turning back now.

The CL is bloated so the second and third tournaments are filled with midtable teams with the odd exception.  PL has by far the strongest teams 5th-17th.

Previousky Sevilla could finish 4th, then finish 3rd in CL then win that. These are now just getting knocked out the CL playoff rounds or r16.

If I knew we were going to sell Isak and not strengthen the squad properly I would’ve preferred we finished 6th.  As we would probably have won this tournament.

While it’s so stacked in the PL favour. We need to get I on the European cup wins.

That’s my point. If for argument’s sake they made the change then the Europa suddenly becomes incredibly exciting and prestigious, and you’d expect the relative prize funds to reflect that.

Of course, it also means it will never happen.

The UEFA cup in the 70s and 80s was a harder competition than the European Cup. Having the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams from the best leagues made it incredibly difficult

If Rogers got that goal given against Man United, I think this would have been us tonight.

Aye.

But I think Villa would’ve started to super gap us in playing squad with the extra money.   This is this teams last hurrah imo. It needs a refresh. Rogers aside I think most of their best players are 30ish. Apart from Roger’s the youngest starter today was 28.

Makes you wonder from a fans perspective what would you prefer next season. Get top 5 and have a CL run again, or qualify for the EL and maybe go and win it.

Sorry but I can't help thinking of the Neville Southall "Well done, he's 13[emoji38]

When I think of this Villa "achievement".

They only had to beat Forest essentially to win a European trophy and even then they lost in the away leg to them. Considering Forest were in relegation contention all season and were missing two of their best players in the return leg, that wasn't all that difficult either.

Will be the same if not worse for Crystal Palace in the conference. Was same for Chelsea last year.

Said before but this competition is not the same as UEFA Cup from previous years. It shouldn' t be seen as the same level or equivalent.

CL by a country mile - if we're wanting to start challenging for the league we need the revenue the CL brings.  There is no money in Europa and even less in conference.  Also I wouldn't swap the CL nights for anything.

CL is massive for money and prestige of course but I'm just thinking about from a fans point of view of just enjoying football matches and challenging for trophies. Id love us to win the EL and fuck me we're gonna have to watch bloody Palace lift a European trophy now too.

I'm sure when we're an established good side we'll still have offish seasons and probably end up in the EL but if we're gonna kick on in the next couple of years I'd kinda like a crack at the EL and win the thing along the way.

Don't forget it's also a route back to the CL if you slip behind in the league. Agree with what someone said earlier. My main desperation for reaching CL last year and why that last Everyon game felt like torture when we lost and thought we'd messed up was that it would mean we lost Isak and possibly others.

Well we lost Isak anyways and tanked in the league this season and will lose others this summer.

So yeah I would have preferred Villa to have got CL and us Europa in hindsight because I think it would have meant a better season of bedding in new players and probably a realistic chance to win a trophy and gain CL qualification for the next year.
