If we didn’t win the league cup last year I’d be astonished if a single person on here agreed with this sentiment. If the FA Cup is on par with the League Cup then football is fucking dead. edit: most football fans can remember large numbers of cup finals. They can remember significant winners. No-one beyond the winners remembers league cup final winners. A decade ago I'd have probably agreed. In modern history though, the likes of Man City have gone a long way in strengthening the prestige of the League Cup, taking it more seriously as the first bit of silverware to put in the cabinet for the season. At the same time the FA Cup has lost some of its previous prestige, with replays being scrapped and bigger clubs prioritising the latter stages of the European competitions over domestic cup ties. The FA Cup has history behind it, but now I say they're both viewed as one of two domestic trophies on offer.

Had it have been Magdeburg from Bundesliga 2 then I might have dug deep into my pockets, but aye, would be surprised if that was 3 figures in terms of purchases in the UK. BT / TNT used to have those matches as Hamburg seemed to be involved every year. The second to third tier playoff is on Youtube tomorrow though Edited May 21 by Paullow
Paullow
Final day of the Saudi Pro League as well. 7pm on YouTube. Al-Nassr vs Damac and Al-Fateh vs Al-Hilal. Head to head points seems to be the second tie breaker after points, so if Al-Hilal win, Al-Nassr will too against their relegation threatened opponents as Hilal have the H2H advantage of the 2. Awful in the league though, not helped by injuries late in the season.

Decky
Never seen a man more dead behind the eyes than Ronaldo lifting that title for Al Nassr. It reminds me of the scenario you'd hear about would you take back shots from *insert random person* for 100k a stroke. You'd say yeah but eventually the money wouldn't matter and you'd just wish you were dead.

I thought the scenario was that 5th place was the coefficient place and if Villa finished there but already achieved CL through Europa then the extra place went to the next place down? I just checked and thats correct, of Villa finish 5th then 6th get CL and we lose the Europa place to another country. alexf
It astounds me how bad Liverpool have been and yet still likely to finish in the champions League positions. With Chelsea likely to improve under Alonso, Villa expected to kick on. I can see that top 6 being much harder to break back into for us next year. (Arsenal, Man City, Man U, Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea). Real missed opportunity by us ofcourse this year, even if we'd been 10% better we'd have likely finished in and around 6th at least. I think after the summer business, a full preseason and less games next season, we'll be right back up there amongst it. And dare I say, I think some of those teams may be a little worried that we come back stronger next season and will be looking over their shoulders, or hopefully looking up at us again next season. It has been a disaster, but what's done is done and there's no reason to believe it can't be undone next season for me.

Everyone’s been terrible in general. You’d argue that Man C, Chelsea, Liverpool, us, you, have all been worse than expected. Villa, Arsenal, Fulham, maybe Palace and Forest, Leeds, Burnley, Wolves, West Ham, Brighton, Everton about as expected (generally not great with Europe being a factor with some). Just leaving Sunderland, Man U, Brentford and Bournemouth playing probably better than expected, all of whom benefitting from no Europe. It’s ended up with us all being much of a muchness. The Prophet
There's usually one absolute hiding and one game that goes off on the final day. Fancy City v Villa to be the hiding. Stifler
I’m starting to think West Ham stay up now.
