Not sure that defending well can be written off as ‘luck’.  They’re well-organised and hard to break down.

All the data points to them overachieving, so there is luck needed. Yea it’s great last ditch defending, but you need luck for where the ball drops afterwards or an attacker missing the shot badly, like we’ve seen in this game.

Ref has let the mackems literally grapple City, like.

Their fans going mental over every foul going against them. Yet their lot have been getting away with playing Rugby for most the game

Credit to sunderland. Been brave and pressed high. But also defended deep when they’ve had to. City’s finishing has been a bit wank, mind. Mackems missed a few good chances and all TBF.

Aye they’ve played to their strengths and made it hard for City.

Looking at purely stats, you’d say Sunderland are in a false position but they’re managing to take advantage of a lot of sides that look leggy and soft this season. They should worry when that defensive solidity starts to creak since they don’t score a lot but until teams get their act together, which doesn’t look like happening any time soon, they’ll be fine on their physical side alone. It’s been that sort of season where those qualities are winning out. That keeper is a help, mind. I’d argue he’s been as important as Xhaka and I don’t think he’ll be in their goal next season

Agreed re us in 22/23 - they just don’t have the money to spend that we did (though they have spent a fair chunk of change).  They were also starting from a much lower base than us.  I’ve long believed that it isn’t miraculous to get a team into the upper echelons of the PL - if the team in question are well-organised and fully committed.  Both of which we are lacking at present.

what have you seen about our application to come out with this ?

They’ll finish mid table/top of the bottom half but thank fuck they’ll go down next season like  second season syndrome, they’ll be worked out and other clubs will take their better players.

Orgasmic for them, finishing 11th.

Still think there will be a point they go on a run of losing games and drop or once they are confirmed safe lose a lot of form.

It's not happening mate. They've got too much about them. You can tell.
