The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Recommended Posts

Desperately want us to get champions league, but I’d equally love a crack at the Europa. Big chance to win that, especially with no champions leagues sides dropping into it.

We don't have particularly tough games.

Brighton, Arsenal, Villa all away are hard. The other 6 we should win all of them. Any less than 15 from those and we don't deserve CL. We'll need 2-3 points from those 3 tough away games and an easier home game.

Beat Leicester, Man Utd & Palace and it buys us a defeat at Villa I reckon. Think if we win 6 we've done it.

If we win 6 out of 9, Villa would need to win 7 out of 8 and Chelsea 6/7 out of 8 to beat us. If they did that, hats off to them.

Unless we get a couple of huge wins (or do Chelsea by 3) then Chelsea would be 5 and a draw if we win 6 with GD but you also to factor that City would also need to win 6/8 (or 5 wins, 2 draws) if we win 6.

I just don't see all of us, City and Chelsea winning 6 so its who slips up

I want UCL because we’ve shown we are a good cup side, and against Arsenal over two legs, would give everyone a good run.

First time in it, was such a tough group where we should’ve come 3rd still if we didn’t adopt such a stupid mindset in 2nd half and push on, when we could’ve sat back and let Milan doing the pushing (who had to equally win the game).

Really, really, really want CL but the consolation prize of EL still puts us in a fantastic position to go deep in that comp (loads of home games, bump up the ticket revenue etc) but it also gives us realistic shot at actually winning it too. Looking at the sides still left in this year and I'd make us one of the favourites to win it from here. Raises the profile of the club, another potential trophy and would lead to CL qualification too.

CL is the genuine goal but there are also big benefits to the EL too, it wouldn't be the end of the world  by any stretch

I’d prefer Forest win as I maintain I don’t care about them. Chelsea is the aim to finish above, and behind, Villa are a threat because of the amount of individual match winners they have combined with Emery, they can dig out a winning run and I’d rather go their place with them effectively way off it instead of still having hope.

I'm not so much bothered about missing out on CL footy, as i am desperate to avoid the media doing the whole "you'll never keep Isak now" bullshit.

Aye there's a small part of me that wants CL football just to cut off their "Isak wants to play CL football (with Liverpool)" shite.

I'm hoping that he signs a new deal early in the summer, just to shut them up early doors.

It would be A1 priority for me. Give him want he wants. Even if he decides he wants to leave in a year or so.

Obviously Champions League would be the number 1 aim, but I'd genuinely be so excited to be in the Europa League as well. Used to love the old UEFA Cup in the 90s, which was better than the Champions League as it was back then.

I mean I'm more relaxed because I finally saw us win a trophy. However CL is about guaranteeing the future. Being in CL 2 out of the last 3 years, keeping all our best players, being able to bring in new top level players and making that final push up to being able to compete for the league title. Its just so important, regardless of how fun the EL might be.

I was thinking that before but not sure. I'm sure Leicester were in similar sorts of positions a few years ago and folded in the last couple of games and missed CL when the pressure was on. Keep them honest.

Prefer a draw and if not that then Villa to win.

If Villa were to finish above us they are one of the 3/4 remaining in the FA cup that has already qualified for Europa/CL via the PL, which makes it so that 7th also get Europa league if one of them wins.

So highly likely that we will qualify for Europa League regardless if Villa finishes above us(which I dont think they have a big chance of anyways, even if they win today considering their schedule).

Was about to say that even if Forest have an easy schedule, they might struggle against teams they are expected to win against. But damn, they have an impressive record against the teams outside of the top 6. 15W 3D 3L.

After seeing Eddie’s presser yesterday, I reckon it’s happening.

That was the weird covid season, where they had 3 tough games in last 4, and they won fa cup (big high) before then playing Chelsea again away 3 days later, lost. Season before they missed out again but was 62 and both times they were 5th.

Never had a lead like Forest did, with this many games left.

Right at the end of his presser:

Journo: “So in terms of new contract announcements, you wouldn’t expect anything more before the end of the season?”

Eddie (with big smile and a glint in his eye): “who knows”

Scores stay like this and we can almost guarantee Europa League by winning on Monday and then winning the game in hand (unless Palace win the cup). Would effectively create a nine point gap to eighth with seven games left.

Palace hanging on with nine players though.

Some nice results there. It can obviously change quick, but it does kind of feel like we should finish 7th at worst. Thinking pessimistically, if we did finish 7th and the most likely teams were to pass / stay ahead of us, then if Forest, City, or Villa won the FA Cup (basically anyone but Palace), we would get Europa.
