Would hurt Villa with their wages to earnings problems and make it difficult for Chelsea to claim "fair market value" on some outrageous shirt sponsorship. Same. Chelsea contriving to fuck up in the ECL and then missing out on the CL and EL would be a major headache for them. If not for a free truckload of Infantino vanity project cash, they’d be in fire sale mode. Europa League would force Villa to apply the hand brake a touch whilst still keeping them distracted with Thursday / Sunday fixtures.
The College Dropout Posted yesterday at 07:49 Share Posted yesterday at 07:49 Don’t really care about other teams. We are 2-3 players away from being a top side. We can probably only get those players with the CL boost. So that’s all I care about. We are still on track for the 68 points that will ensure we’ll get CL football no matter what else the others do. Think Palace is our toughest home game. Get past the

Norseman Posted yesterday at 08:33 Share Posted yesterday at 08:33 3rd in our hands. It's been a crazy, crazy season. 5 wins in the first 15, 12 wins in the next 16. That's top 2 form over nearly half a season. I can sort of understand why some people were asking questions back in November, but personally never questioned Eddie. He has proven himself over his time here. He's not been helped by a complete lack of recruitment since summer 23. That was a big part of the problem. Amazing what he's achieved here, and there's hopefully much more to come.
Mazzy Posted yesterday at 08:52 Share Posted yesterday at 08:52 (edited) Thinking about 2nd does seem ludicrous. Will seem less so if we neat Palace. It would be hugely gratifying for us to do it though. Everyone in the media talking about the UCL spots a few weeks ago and barley giving us a mention. Really don't want to get ahead of myself though, these next two games for us could change the table dramatically. Sibierski Posted yesterday at 09:00 Share Posted yesterday at 09:00 All games are big now, but the Palace one for me is huge. Kept saying I’d rather have a cushion and manage that gap, and the Palace game if we win would do just that. 5 clear of Villa and Chelsea, where if Villa were to go out to PSG, the pressure is more on them needing to win which plays into our hands. Even if we were to lose, I don’t fancy Chelsea to beat Fulham away, so we can just open up a cushion again by beating Ipswich at home. Essentially a win against Palace helps us put pressure on the others in upcoming games, rather than it falling on us.
Sibierski Posted yesterday at 09:02 Share Posted yesterday at 09:02 Famous last words, but didn’t realise Chelsea play Liverpool too before us. I could see them getting at best one point in their next 2 games, where after our game with them, we could be (even with a draw to Villa) 11 clear and them out of it

Would love their gamble on big money loan signings to backfire. Fair play to them for risking it though, looks like it will get them into Europe in some form, even if it's not CL. midds Posted yesterday at 09:11 Share Posted yesterday at 09:11 Villa could still win the FA Cup too. They've got a stacked league schedule (us, City, Fulham, Bournemouth, Spurs and Man U), PSG at home, Palace at Wembley and a possible FA Cup final too. All to be played in about the next 6 weeks
WilliamPS Posted yesterday at 09:13 Share Posted yesterday at 09:13 We absolutely want Villa and Chelsea to miss out from a hard headed rivals perspective. If Chelsea snuck into the CL their ludicrous project might start to come together. And Villa are well ran peer and going from strength to strength, if they get CL again next season they’ll be very strong. Am sure some people will hope Man City miss CL for the comedy value

JP Posted yesterday at 09:16 Share Posted yesterday at 09:16 Would fancy us to beat Chelsea at home regardless of what they do in their other fixtures. City have the easiest run in can't seem them missing out. Forest have started the wobble. We're the opposite and have won 18 out of the last 23 games. Sibierski Posted yesterday at 09:28 Share Posted yesterday at 09:28 Forest sliding out and not get Europe would be wild for the position they were in. Fair chance they lose a couple of top players, coupled with the peak from likes of Wood ending and the hangover going into next season and being back in the bottom half mix. Hope they get conference league at worse (if we get UCL). At least they would enjoy it as a club unless Chelsea who have treated it as a hindrance. Forest look like they might get cold feet right at the death, which was always a possibility.

Jewel Posted yesterday at 09:51 Share Posted yesterday at 09:51 City will be fine. They have an academy which is a virtual cash-printing machine. I expect them to go hard in the transfer market this summer even if they do miss out on CL football.

Sibierski Posted yesterday at 10:23 Share Posted yesterday at 10:23 All ifs and buts, but they could be 6th level on points with Villa in 7th as they next play away to Spurs, who could have a new manager bounce Football can change quick.

Am sure some people will hope Man City miss CL for the comedy value Absolutely true. We really need Villa to miss out. Chelsea are screwed either way because of what they've going in financially, I don't think it'll matter if they get UCL as they could well get banned anyway and they're going to spend money whether they have it or not. But Villa getting it for two seasons in a row really sets them up for the next season and we don't want that. It's a shame Fulham and Brighton have fallen away a little because that would be the ideal scenario, if one or both of them could finish above one or both of Chelsea and Villa.
