Agreed. Which itself is as much as 25% of what qualifying for the CL basically gave us. Never mind the sporting side of it too.
LiquidAK
Not to mention if we did go through the knockouts would be in the new year - we'd likely have a stronger squad injury-wise and with January reinforcements. Not saying we'd be favourites by any means, but over 2 legs we'd give anyone a damn good go. If the PSG games were a 2-leg knock out we'd have won that 5-2. If we go through we'll have beaten Milan on aggregate too. We're not here to make up the numbers.

The German teams will do very well this season so it’ll be tight enough between Spain, England and Germany. Bayern and Dortmund going out in the next round would do us a favour. BShearer
Dale Johnson @DaleJohnsonESPN Newcastle join Man United in crashing out. The gap grows as Germany and Italy pull away -- and Italy keep a full bank of 7 teams. Only top 2 get a 5th place in UCL 1. Germany 13.36 2. Italy 13.14 3. England 12.13 4. Spain 12.06 5.France 10.42 so yes, all what we need is Arsenal, City going very far in CL now, semis at least Liverpool i way superior to 95% of clubs in EL, they should go very far as long as they dont opt to reducre their schedule and "opt" out from it to fight for PL title rather than having Thursday games every week. Brighton, WHU hopefully makes a good run until last 8 at least sending out Spanish, Italian or German clubs along the way. And Villa as per their current form should go and rip the third cup series apart. not sure its doable but maybe. Villa, Spurs, MU and us* are in absolute fight for 4th and 5th. we may need 5th to be a CL place if we want to get back next season. nemtizz
Finally we can focus on finishing 6th and getting Europa Le-… nevermind.
Decky
Hopefully the lads aren't too deflated for the Fulham game this weekend. Time now to focus on this and get back in next season.
gbandit
Time to really turn it on in the league now. We can’t afford to finish lower than sixth now and need to be in contention for fifth at the least

Nobody
With hos shite the CL will be next year, I struggle to care too much if we qualify for it or not. So fucking happy we were in it this year and got such a class group
TheBrownBottle
I still think top five is a big ask - and frankly if we win a cup, I don’t give a shite if we finish top four / five or not.

Aye and we play Chelsea, a Chelsea team who know winning this trophy is probably their only chance of European football next season. Ginola14
Chelsea are traditionally cup specialists. Dreading this game.

Ginola14
Coupled with our away form, I'm guessing they'll be favourites. Jammy bastards with their home draws.

Mahoneys Tache
I’d be pleased with a home draw against the scouse mackems next round. Gordon hat trick would do nicely.

BShearer
likes of Inter, Milan, Lazio, Napoli all will face a group winner in CL. I expect 3 of them to get likes of Bayern, City, Arse, Real, Barca which is 80/20 one of them maybe Socieded, Dortmund which is 50/50. as long as WHU, Brighton, Pool do decent in EL imo 5th is a CL place too. not that it guarantees anything because if we dont pick up our away form big time (with still to go to MU, Chelsea, Arse, Pool etc) we will be somewhere 7/8th anyway.
