Geogaddi
It's mad what one bad result can do , if we had beaten Forest we would be sat 7th and everyone would be happy enough and looking forward to an improved second half of the season with less injuries and games . Realistically we needed to beat both Forest and Luton. We aren't making up 11 points over half a season. That's the purely analytical view, beyond that I also think a team that scores or concedes late goals also tells a story.
Scoot
Until we sort our away form out we've got no chance of finishing top 4 and it'll be touch and go to get into Europe at all. We've been honking away from home this season.

I think the way the top 4 is panning out already, it's going to need a 72 / 73 points to get in the Top 4 at least, personally. Which is an inconceivable amount for us to achieve given we are on 29! astraguy
top 4 I've written off in my eyes its been a very good first half to the season given who we've played in all comps and the injuries we've had, Last season we massively overachieved and got lucky with injuries! I would of taken Europe in any form last season and will again this in Eddie i trust

Which is an inconceivable amount for us to achieve given we are on 29! 73 points is the PL average for third. 68 points the average total for fourth. Thus far this season, it looks like being pretty close to an average points accumulation, i. e. Liverpool (1st) on 42 when the average would be around 43/44 at half way, Man City (3rd) on 40 when the average would be 37. I reckon 68/69 should be enough for 4th, if I had to guess. Still a long way off of course, but 62 should secure 6th.
The College Dropout
If we won at Luton and Forest we would be on course for 70 points right? We are off pace. But not tremendously so.
Shearergol
We’re not finishing top 4, but we’ll win the league soon enough. This season is just a set back

I doubt we will get much change out of Liverpool, City and Villa, so that puts us on 22 games with circa 29 points, 16 games to go to get 40ish points - 2.5 points a game on average. It'd have to be one heck of a run from February onwards.
Turnbull2000
No lower that 7th is the target now. Should hopefully ensure we still keep our better players and the owners don't give Howe the chop. Would be devastated if Mourinho comes in - though he may realise we're very limited in spending due to FFP and FMV and not want to bother anyway. TRon
Spurs are 10 points ahead of us. That just doesn't feel right.
Ketsbaia
With a heavily optimistic mindset, it could maybe be 6th. But we're probably talking 7th at best, which is a massive shame. All it took was one bad month. Edited December 31, 2023 by Ketsbaia
Ikon
No matter how much it’s been frustrating for me/you it’s just one season. In a few years it’s just been a blip. Imagine being where we were before the takeover. No fucking ambition or hope whatsoever of looking to improve and be competitive. We will have many good/great seasons to enjoy and things will only become better and better until we are up there consistently. Might be 2 steps forward and one backwards at times. At least we can more than dream now again. Also, a lot can happen between now and the end of the season (positively) even if we do not end up as high as we might have wished for. Happy New Year to all of you. Peace! Edited January 1 by Ikon

Superior Acuña
We're now only 4 goals off conceding what we did in the whole of last season. (33 last season, 29 so far this) I'd say 6th is best reasonably-likely scenario. Edited January 2 by Superior Acuña
RodneyCisse
Would we rather 8th this season and fresh legs every week or 6th and Europa league?
KingArthur
8 minutes ago, RodneyCisse said: Would we rather 8th this season and fresh legs every week or 6th and Europa league? Europa. We can rotate there too, and it brings some revenue + chance to win something.

But as it’s already been said, our trajectory is going upwards, it’s not always going to be linear. Europa would be an achievement, 8th would feel a disappointment but in reality from where we’ve come from over the last few seasons would be about right. Yorkie
Being out of Europe is never the preference. You do what you can to adapt to the additional pressure and just hope the dice roll in your favour in terms of injuries and refereeing decisions. You also recalibrate your expectations in terms of the domestic campaign.

In a transitional season with a squad that needs rebooting I think it’s a great opportunity to reset. Of course we have significant revenue anyway, which gives us some flexibility. Just…can you imagine what sort of team we’d be putting out right now if we’d got into the Europa Conference or whatever it’s called.
