Palace are not ambitious.

No, but they finished 10th, and might think they could sneak 8th one year. It's the only reason I can think a few mid table clubs might like the idea or vote for it.

I'm not fussed either way, since as has been pointed out, it just means them and Chelsea swap competitions.

Then Chelsea get kicked out for financial doping :pow:

Converting all seasons to have the same number of games per month (based on 2024-25: Aug

2, S 4, O 3, N 4, Dec 6, J 4, F 4, M 2, A 5, M 4). The blue line is a prediction (based on difficulty of opposition) where we will pick up the 69 or so points likely to be required for a fourth place finish.

The columns show where we have picked up points in previously three seasons. Note fantastic second half of seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22, and poor second half last year.

Love this update each week mate

I reckon top 5 (which should get CL this year you'd think) so we'll need around 70 points again.

I also want us to beat Man City or Liverpool at least once out of the 4 head-to-heads.

Lovely to see Chelsea drop point at home today.

They allways get hyped up like crazy after 1 good game, and then fall back down again next weekend.[emoji38]

Here's this season's chart predicting when we would be expected to pick up the average 69 points required for a 4th place finish. It takes into account quality of the opposition and whether we play them home or away. According to the formula used we should have had 4 points by end of August (we did) and 10 by end of September (only there points away with three games to play). It'll look better when we've played more but I've added a half season version so current trajectory is more visible.

Already 3 points up on our points haul from last season against the same opposition.

Southampton would replace Sheffield United wouldn’t they? Meaning we are up one point and - 4 on goal difference against those opponents.

Championship winners replace 18th

Runners up replace 19th

Play off winners replace 20th

A few random things I noticed now that the European fixtures are set:

  • City's fixtures before / after we play them over a 13 day span are Inter (h), Arsenal (h), Watford (h), Newcastle (a), Slovan Bratislava (a). The Arsenal game is 24h after our match that weekend, plus the midweek game, and Bratislava is just three days after we play them.
  • Chelsea's fixtures over a 13 day span are Liverpool (a), Panathinaikos (a), Newcastle (h), and Man United (a). R4 of the League Cup would be after the Chelsea game, so we definitely will not be playing midweek while they are in Greece.
  • We play Arsenal immediately following Chelsea. Arsenal's fixtures in a 13 day span include Liverpool (h), Newcastle (a), Inter (a), Chelsea (a). Both of us could have League Cup games mid-week before we play.
  • Liverpool's fixtures following the October international break are: Chelsea (h), Leipzig (a), Arsenal (a), Brighton (h), Leverkusen (h), Villa (h), {international break}, Southampton (a), Real Madrid (h), Man City (h), Newcastle (a), Everton (a).

Unfortunately we play all of Villa, Man United, and Spurs during the Christmas period, but these four have all lined up quite nicely and three of the four are home games for us.

So you're saying 12 points clear by Christmas?

Thanks for this, I’d been wondering how the fixtures fell but couldn’t be arsed to look into [emoji38]

FWIW Christmas is prime time for the fixture fatigue, particularly those who’ve just been playing twice a week in Europe - we’re gonna need to leverage that advantage.

Its only 4 games, and performances need to improve, but so far:

  • 3 points ahead of Chelsea
  • 4 points ahead of Man United
  • 6 points ahead of Tottenham

And we're 3 points better off than the same fixtures last season. Not too bad, despite the performances being not so great.

Unreal seeing that, especially after having 2 away games

Feels almost wrong to post in this thread with our patchy football so far, but when we are 3rd in the table in a CL spot, grab it with both hands has to be the message.

Today’s match was a reminder of how a good keeper can make a huge difference. Had Pope been available last season, we would be in Europa League this season for sure.

That's exactly the way to look at it. This was a difference-maker of a result.
