Jose Habib Posted Sunday at 22:18 Share Posted Sunday at 22:18 Would Man Utd winning the Europa League (and not finishing top 5) mean they get CL at the expense of the 5th place team?

I think there's a mental toll which will marinate the longer a streak goes on. The expectation and desire to keep the run going becomes more and more amplified at the expense of the 'one game at a time' mantra which characterises the early part of the sequence. Then a shit result comes along. So the preceding results do have an impact to some extent imo. I distinctly remember an inexplicable defeat at home to a shit Blackburn under Rafa which lost us some record.

City away, Villa away, Brighton away (we never win against Brighton away), Liverpool away, and arsenal away. That's 5 games right there I genuinely can't see us winning. Well, smacking Villa home and away has become virtually a tradition for us now. Not saying we can assume anything in the slightest, but I don't think we should be shy about all those fixtures. Got hopes for Arsenal away, too (in the league) - I can see this being the year for floods of tears.
Superior Acuña Posted yesterday at 00:11 Share Posted yesterday at 00:11 Should probably drop Isak as he’ll be less likely to score against Wolves since no one’s scored 8 in a row for us in PL :-) (soz)

There's also teams changing their tactics against you, playing a low block and grinding out a draw etc. Teams just let us have the ball a couple seasons back when we looked unbeatable, as we famously struggled to break teams down sitting back. Villa are probably more of a threat aye, but what I meant was that Man U and Spurs means 2 teams less to worry about for a CL place unless they go on some sort of miracle run, and our form drops off a cliff. The College Dropout Posted yesterday at 11:37 Share Posted yesterday at 11:37 (edited) 11 hours ago, Geordie Ahmed said: Nope, in that scenario England would have 6 teams in the CL Has this been confirmed? Atalanta finished 4th and won the Europa League (qualifying for the CL twice) and Italy got the additional CL spot. But the CL spot didn't go down to 6th. Think Serie A got 5 CL, 2 Conference League, 2 Europa League - I believe that is the maximum allowed in UEFA comp. With priority given to Cup Winners. Edit: Read an article from ESPN. They say a maximum of 7 can get a place from one association. But it doesn't pass down in the league. So top 5 if earned through Euro comp. UCL winner. Europa winner. So if we finish 5th but PL get the additional spot, City finish 6th but win CL and Spurs win Europa - we all go into the CL. andyc35i Posted yesterday at 12:37 Share Posted yesterday at 12:37 I think the tried and tested ‘one game at a time’ or ‘only thinking about the next game’ cliches are perfect for the situation we’re in. All I care about right now is the next game as it’s huge for our chances of finally ending the trophy drought

I can only find an ESPN article that says there can be 7 but with no links to UEFA. I think City finish above us but don't win the CL anyway. It's the Europa League that is v. winnable without CL dropouts for Spurs & Man U. Who might give up on the league if they get to the QFs.

Last bit was my confusion, the CL/EL/CFL winners no longer take a spot from their respective leagues if the winners don't re-qualify through them
