Also, from my point of view, I’d swap finishing high up the league for a cup final win.

Brentford, Palace, Ipswich, Man United and Everton are all in principle winnable home games. Likewise Leicester away.

Chelsea home will be a tough game which will be key to win

Brighton, Aston Villa- tough away games. A point would be a great result.

Arsenal will have lost the league by the time we play them. But probably hate us

As someone else said, we have come through a very tricky period of fixtures and ended up scrapping a good result tonight. Focus on the final and hopefully win this weekend. If we don't, still put ourselves in a good position to aim for 5th and CL qualification with other teams with extra competitions to distract them.

Hoping Arsenal progress in the UCL to make them prioritise that rather than the dead rubber PL by that point.

I've seen us finish 2nd twice, 3rd twice, 4th twice, 5th twice ...

And I'll happily say that anyone who wants to do any of the above rather than seeing us win a trophy is talking absolute shite :)

The thought of that adrenaline rush of achieving something on the day is what keeps you going.

If you want to see us compete in the long run, which you seem rather hung up on, CL qualification is vital. I obviously want us to win the final, but to suggest if we win the final out PL finishing position doesn’t matter anymore (which is what Stifler said) is very shortsighted I’m afraid.

Totally agree. Whatever happens Sunday the players have got an international break after to reset things with a run of four games after that where we can really make a push. I think Howe will have them mentally ready for it too.

CL qualification going into this summer is the chance for the squad to really become something impressive and rule out the likes of Isak going.

I'm as hung up on it as anyone :) - but there's zero guarantees about anything, and regular CL qualification is important in the long run, but ultimately I'd be perfectly happy with Conference League next year and another realistic chance of winning a trophy.

Perhaps our commercial team could continue growing at the current rate, which I understand is achievable, rendering CL qualification unnecessary ;)

Those are the current 'top 4' odds. Doesn't appear to be 'top 5' odds, despite it being fairly apparent 5th in the PL will get CL football next season.

They are the 3rd - 10th odds tbf - that's the bookies' league table prediction.  It looks like they think we'll finish 6th.

If we win on Sunday I think it will lift the pressure off the players and the crowd will be buzzing for a few weeks. We'll finish higher in the league as a result.

Agree with this, we are not going to close the financial gap and attract the best players by winning the Carabao cup.

Not that it should be one or the other. However, you seen with Ten Hag’s Man Utd last season that winning a cup can be a good distraction from failing in the league, but once the celebrations are over it ultimately catches up with you.

Expanding the global brand will only be done at greater speed by winning trophies and not achieving CL football. Obviously the latter helps but fans who aren't from the region are more likely to tune in for a team that wins trophies.

I honestly think none of our key players leave in the summer if we win a cup.

Surely you can see the two things are intrinsically linked? Competing at CL level and in the top four/five in the league when the opportunity arises (like this season) is what will generate the commercial revenue we need to catch up and compete consistently.

A one off carabao cup win isn’t going to make much difference to a global brand, see the likes of Swansea and Birmingham for that.

Champions League qualification brings in big money, allowing the club to spend more on transfer and attracting better players. It is still on the club to build on that but it is the springboard to better things and popularity globally.

Spurs are a great example of that.

With all due respect, I don’t think winning the league cup, as brilliant as it would be to get that monkey of our back, would significantly move the needle in building the brand. Being in the CL for the second time in three years, now you’re talking.

Reminds me of a couple of seasons ago when the mentality with some boiled down to "not sure if we should qualify for the Champions League, it'll harm our ability to get into the Champions League!"

I don't think people truly appreciate what winning a cup would do for this football club right now. We're already on an upward trajectory, it would get a huge monkey off our back, increase the liklihood of it happening again, and galvanise everyone. We're not going to do a Swansea or Birmingham, that's idiotic.
