Think ppl are slightly harsh on Gordon’s output. It’s a tough division for wide forwards.

Saka has 7 goals 7 assists. Mbeumo played once a week - 11 goals 3 assists. Trossard 6 goals 6 assists. Doku 5 goals 5 assists.  Gakpo 7 goals 5 assists. Salah 7 goals 7 assists.

Outside of Semenyo I can’t think of wide players getting a load of goals and assists this season.

Equally Gordon isn’t and will never be ‘him’.

Salah is way past the peak of his powers this season in fairness.

Not great technically.  Would say Rashford is better technically. The way Rashford can really strike a ball, bend a free kick or on his day have great skill when dribbling.  Thats not Gordon.

Gordon however has tremendous work rate.  Very quick.  Flick will love him because his pressing can be as good as it gets, creating chances just from that.

I also imagine Spain has weaker fullbacks than the PL which Gordon can tear apart like he did in the CL.

I’ll be honest I didn’t think Diaz was any/significantly better than Gordon and he’s been amazing for Bayern.

Think Gordon is maybe similar to Raphinha who I don’t think is a top class technician either but has been class (Raphinha has a great long shot which Gordon doesn’t).

But Gordon doesn’t have the technical ability of an Olise or Bale.

Hes going to win them a boatload of penalties at a minimum in his first season, I don’t think most fullbacks over there will be ready for his output

Like you say, his game will look similar to as it did in the CL

So we're rich again?

Anyway, tell me what can I expect from him. We do lack wing depth, but that's a lot of money for just depth. I suppose we don't see Raphinha staying for longer than one more season.

I think he’ll be excellent for you and predict over time the transfer fee will begin to look very good value. He’ll do bombs in La Liga.

Stand out qualities are he’s a pressing machine, very quick, direct and can play two positions well.

Negatives, not that this will matter to you guys, but he’s all about number 1. He’ll only do what suits him, when it suits him and if it’s in his own best interest. There’s nowhere ‘up’ from Barca though so he’ll no doubt perform for you 90% of the time and you’ll like him.

Gets a slightly unfair rap from some folks but there’s a reason he’s going to one of the best clubs in the world imho.

Am I the only one that thinks it's just about what he's worth? Not a bargain, not a rip off.

Gordon with motivation is a fantastic player, and I'd expect this move to give him that. That's before getting on to how much easier La Liga should be for him in theory.

I think it's the most we could have gotten for him, that's his ceiling price, I don't think he could improve to become a £100m player for example if that makes sense.

Possibly yeah, but then the only way is down from Barca.

No I'd agree with that, which is why I'm slightly miffed because we should be ripping them off. Feels like we've accepted their first offer, when we probably could have squeezed an extra 10-15m in total for him.

Apparently the deal is £70m up front plus £10m of very achievable add ons - that’s insane if true:

That seems like a great deal for Newcastle. Cheers to Wilson. Baseline value of 78M quid.

Max value of 86M quid if everything is triggered, no? Add in a sell-on and that's a pretty nice return on investment.

I think it's pretty good value for us but I do also agree that he'll simultaneously do really well there in Flick's system + the environment which might make him look a bit cheap in hindsight.

We probably could've got a bit more out of them but I think the time benefit to us getting on with it this window is potentially worth a lot more than the extra £10m we might've been able to squeeze.

With 3 alleged bidders, if he'd been agnostic about where he was going, we might have been able to bid them all up.  But once he made it clear that he only wanted to accept the Barca offer we've likely accepted their offer to keep everyone happy and show that we're the reasonable ones who won't stand in a player's way.

I really don't feel in the mood for this kind of transfer anyway, and hopefully the club don't either. Quick, clean, done and move onto incomings. Win for everyone.

You're going to typically have the lion share of possession most games, and feature midfielders that can move the ball around the pitch and progress it into forward areas pretty easily, not to mention play him in behind when he makes forward runs. You'll also have a major threat on the right wing of your team that commands most of the attention. Dare I say he's going to find things much easier with you in general and so you'll likely see the best version of him when you do have the ball. Off the ball he's going to give you a ton of energy pressing and defending, especially as he'll now have to do less defending in general as your lot will tend to control games against most of the sides you face.
